Leather belts in summer?!
To begin with, leather straps are not generally associated with summer. Of course, they can be worn all year round, but with the recent summer heatwaves, opportunities to wear leather straps on one's wrist have likely decreased due to the heat. Leather is also easily damaged by sweat and other factors, and deteriorates quickly. For these reasons, many people generally wear bracelet-type watches in the summer.
So what should people do if they want to wear leather straps in the summer? We will explain this here.

lining
It will be!!
You may be thinking " Lining ...!?", but this is actually a very important point, and is a key element in making the leather strap last longer.
The lining is something that cannot be seen from the outside, so it may seem like there is no need to be too particular about it, but the material and specifications used can help the leather last longer, making it easier to wear even in the summer.
Recommended materials and specifications
Now, what specific materials and specifications should we use?
I would like to give a brief introduction.
rubber
Generally, leather such as calfskin is used, but by having the lining changed to "rubber" through a custom-made service , the leather strap can be upgraded to one that is suitable for the summer.
Since it is made of rubber , it is less likely to deteriorate due to sweat and is more durable.
In addition, the specifications in the photo are "seamless" as an option, so the seams between the outer leather and the lining are not visible. In fact, this specification is also very important, because if the seams of the threads are visible on the lining , sweat and other substances can seep into the outer leather through the holes, accelerating the progression of deterioration and damage.
Water-repellent cowhide
Next, we would like to introduce water-repellent cowhide .
This specification is recommended for those who are a little hesitant about rubber , or for those who want to enjoy the familiarity and feel that is characteristic of leather straps.
By changing this to the "seamless" specification as mentioned earlier, the leather strap can withstand sweat and other elements much better than normal.
I will be honest about it, but for one of the two pairs I had custom made, I chose this "water-repellent cowhide."
Try it out
Finally, I would like to share my impressions from actually using the "rubber" and "water-repellent cowhide" leather straps described above this summer.
Resistant to deterioration
First of all, what both have in common is that the outer leather is resistant to damage and stays in good condition. With previous leather straps, the surface of the leather and the area around the holes in the strap would deteriorate after a few months of use, but with the specifications mentioned above, the durability of the leather has increased.

If you look at the photos, you can see it at a glance. There is almost no damage or deterioration, and it is in good condition. Personally, I was impressed by how different it is.
Wearing comfort
I think this is a point that everyone is very concerned about.
If I were asked which is more comfortable to wear, "regular leather" or "rubber" , I would honestly say "regular leather" (laughs).
However, this does not mean that the rubber is not comfortable to wear.
At first, you may feel a sense of tension until it fits your arm, but after some time, it will no longer be a problem. On the other hand, the water-repellent cowhide leather is slightly thicker than normal leather, so it holds the watch securely and is comfortable to wear.
