overview
Features
①Collaboration of brands exploring Japanese classics
This time, Seiko Presage has collaborated with Porter Classic, a Japanese brand that aims to create products that can be used for a long time. Seiko Presage embodies the skills and traditional techniques of Japanese craftsmen in mechanical watches, and both share the same attitude of pursuing "classics."
"Classic" became the key concept for the product development of both companies. The box that the watch and strap are stored in is a two-tiered paulownia wood box that incorporates the ancient Japanese culture of "stacking". The big appeal is that not only the design of the watch, but also the box that comes with it is a special specification that gives you a sense of Japanese "classicism".
②Based on the design of the first Japanese wristwatch, the "Laurel"
The watch that served as the basis for the design of this piece is the Laurel, which was released in 1913 as Japan's first wristwatch. At a time when pocket watches were still mainstream, this model can be considered the origin of Seiko, which was one of the first to start producing wristwatches and completed the first wristwatch made in Japan. This piece faithfully reproduces the plump form of the watch.
The case back is engraved with the serial number and a standing figure of Katsuyuki Yoshida, an icon of Porter Classics at the time of its founding. It also features movable lugs inspired by the bow of a pocket watch, which was also seen in past reissue models.
3) A dial that makes use of Japan's traditional craftsmanship, enamel
Like the Laurel, the dial is made of enamel. Whereas the Laurel used white enamel, this model uses black enamel. The dials, each piece handcrafted by enamel craftsman Mitsuru Yokozawa, have a chic, striking finish. Enamel dials are not only beautiful in appearance, but also resistant to discoloration over time, embodying the value standard of "something that will be loved for a long time" shared by both Seiko and Porter Classics.
The original model had a second hand at the 6 o'clock position, but this model has a 24- hour sub-dial. Another point is that the Arabic numerals, hour and minute hands, and 24- hour hand are faithful to the original design.
④Replaceable slim cordovan strap
The strap is made of replaceable cordovan. In addition to the sheen and luster that only cordovan can provide, the design minimizes stitching, creating a sense of luxury. The strap is thin to match the width of the case lugs, but the part that touches the case is wider, improving the wearing comfort.
In addition to the black strap, a brown strap is also included, so you can change it depending on your outfit or style. In addition, the strap has more holes than a regular strap, so it can be worn by people with thin wrists and women.
summary
What did you think?
This time, I think they have paid tribute to the original model and released a model that perfectly combines the best of both Seiko and Porter. With a high-quality finish, this watch is easy for anyone to use, and since it is limited to 500 pieces and is a dream collaboration watch between two of Japan's leading brands, it is expected to be a hotly contested item. To be honest, I want one too...
