"Actor's Watch" focuses on watches worn by actors in movies, television, etc.
This is the 15th installment and we will be bringing you "TAG Heuer Carrera in the movies."
The Carrera , released in 1963, is a chronograph for car racing and rallies created by Jack Heuer, the fourth president of TAG Heuer (great-grandson of founder Edward Heuer). Its name comes from the legendary road race Carrera Panamericana Mexico, held in Mexico in the 1950s.

Jack Heuer placed such importance on relationships with the motorsports industry that he would sneak into racing events disguised as a journalist and secure sponsorship contracts with prominent racers and drivers. As a result of his proactive promotion, TAG Heuer subsequently grew significantly as a brand favored by racers and drivers.
Ford vs Ferrari

"FORD V FERRARI" (2020)
"Ford v Ferrari" is a passionate car racing film based on the true story of the development of the Ford GT40, which won the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Ford commissioned the development of a "machine that could beat the reigning champion Ferrari" to former racer Carroll Shelby, who founded a car design company, and eccentric and unconventional British test driver Ken Miles. In this film, Matt Damon , who plays Carroll Shelby, wears the Carrera Ref . 7753SN. This is a black horizontal-eye two-register chronograph, commonly known as the "Panda." It was made by Heuer before it became a TAG company.

In fact, the panda-colored Carrera was released in the 1970s. This movie is set in the mid-1960s, so it doesn't fit the era. Perhaps the design and iconic image of the panda color scheme were prioritized over consistency.

By the way, the watch worn by Christian Bale , who plays Ken Michaels, is the Autavia Ref. 2446 , also made by Heuer. The model is commonly known as the "Jochen Rindt" model, and the name comes from the fact that it was worn by the 1970 F1 champion, the Dutch racer Jochen Rindt.

Rush/Pride and Friendship
"RUSH" (2013)
Two legendary F1 racers from the 1970s, James Hunt , nicknamed "The Wrecker" for his wild driving, and Niki Lauda , always calm and called "The Computer", are depicted in the car racing movie " Rush", also based on a true story, depicting the rivalry between the two and the 1976 racing accident that put Niki Lauda in a life-or-death situation.

The Carrera worn in this movie is Chris Hemsworth (aka Thor), who plays James Hunt. The unique Carrera, with its solid gold lug-integrated case and left-handed crown, is thought to be the Carrera Ref. 1158CHN, a chronograph that symbolizes the golden age of racing in the 1970s and was traditionally given to Ferrari F1 drivers by Jack Heuer.

However, in 1976, when the movie is set, James Hunt was with McLaren. It seems more like a watch that should have been worn by Niki Lauda, who was with Ferrari (in fact, there is a photo of Niki Lauda himself wearing this watch). Perhaps the production team decided that a glamorous solid gold chronograph was more suitable for the flamboyant character of James Hunt than the calm and collected Niki Lauda. What do you think?
Inception
"INSEPTION" (2010)
A group of industrial spies infiltrates the subconscious of their targets to steal information. Their next mission is to implant the unconscious thought of "destroying the company" in the head of a large company, causing the company to collapse. "Inception" is a sci-fi action movie directed by Christopher Nolan, director of "The Dark Knight" and "Tenet".
In this film, the Carrera is worn by Leonardo DiCaprio, who plays the leader of a group of industrial espionage. He wears a simple three-hand Carrera Ref . WV211B.BA0787.

Like Christopher Nolan's latest film, Tenet, Inception is a film that depicts a sci-fi world with a very complex structure with overwhelming visuals. I was so busy trying to understand the story that I don't remember what scene Carrera appeared in at all (laughs). Maybe my memory of "watching this movie" is a false memory planted in me by someone.

The Solitary Gourmet
"SOLITARY GOURMET" (2012-)
The popular drama series "Solitary Gourmet" is a drama that depicts the blissful time that Goro Inogashira, a personal importer of antique goods, spends his time after work satisfying his hunger by eating alone. No explanation is needed. Recently, it has been quietly gaining popularity as a "drama that encourages eating alone, ahead of the post-COVID era ."
The man wearing the Carrera in this drama is Yutaka Matsushige , who plays Goro Inogashira.
He is wearing the Carrera Chronograph Racing Ref . CV2014.BA0794.

The 41mm tachymeter chronograph seems a bit bulky for Goro, who always wears a suit, but Goro is actually a militant trader who is good at arm locks. It may be that this watch is the very limit of sporty for a business that involves customers in suits (there is also a theory that it is the favorite watch of Yutaka Matsushige himself).
summary
Developed for motorsports and developed alongside the history of motorsports , the TAG Heuer Carrera is a perfect fit for films about motorsports. Today, popular vintage watches bring a realistic feel to the atmosphere and realism of the circuits of the 1960s and 1970s.

In today's world of motorsports, watch promotion is a competitive affair, and TAG Heuer cannot dominate the field. Instead, the Carrera seems to be establishing itself as a watch suitable for everyday use and business situations, away from the circuit. This kind of flexibility is what makes TAG Heuer "avant-garde."
see you!
