hello everyone!

This may seem sudden, but do you take care of your favorite watch on a daily basis ?

Luxury watches, which tend to be highly accurate and robust, are surprisingly often neglected when it comes to maintenance, and we often wonder, "How can they get to this point?" However, in reality, it's not that they're neglecting maintenance, but rather that they "don't know how to do it."

So this time, Dr. Ito, the ``best new recruit'' who has joined Commit Ginza, will introduce us to a highly effective care method that anyone can do easily.

The coming season will be especially hot and make you sweat. Whether or not you perform simple maintenance on your watch can make a big difference in its condition, so please use this information as a reference and properly maintain your beloved watch.

Daily care instructions

❶Things to prepare

As advertised, it's super easy, and the preparation is also very simple.

▶ A soft cloth like the one you use to clean glasses

▶Toothpick

▶Wet wipes

▶Toothbrush

Brass brush

Basically, you can get everything for 100 yen.

2. Wipe dry with a soft cloth

The first step is to wipe it dry, which is often done when maintaining any item.

When you wear a watch every day, sweat and oily dirt will accumulate on the case and bracelet, no matter how carefully you treat it. If you leave it like that, fine dirt will gradually accumulate.

Therefore, after use, wipe it dry with a soft cloth, such as the one you would use to clean glasses , to prevent dirt from building up as much as possible. Dirt tends to accumulate on the back of the watch, which comes into direct contact with the skin , so it's a good idea to wipe off sweat from the back rather than the front.

Some of you may think that's all, but this is actually the most important thing!!

Dry wiping every day will make a big difference in how much dirt accumulates in the long run. Make sure to dry wipe your items after use as part of your routine.

3. Clean gaps with a toothpick and wet tissue

For daily care, simply wiping it dry after use is sufficient, but dirt that cannot be removed by doing that will accumulate in small gaps . To remove this, periodically wrap a wet tissue around the end of a toothpick and wipe it.

" Gaps between the bezel and the case ," " Uneven parts on the back of the case ," and " Gaps in the bracelet and buckle ."

Let's clean it up.

Even a light rub will leave black stains on the wet tissue, and you will see that even a clean-looking watch can be surprisingly dirty in the crevices. If you don't do this, even stainless steel, which is resistant to rust, can rust at worst, causing serious damage to the watch. Although it may be a hassle, we recommend using a toothpick and wet tissue to clean the watch about once a month in the summer.

❹ Scrub with a brush

Use a brush to scrub off any dirt that you have scraped off with the toothpick or that has stuck to the surface. For hairline finish bracelets, you can use a brush sold at 100 yen shops. A brass brush works well: gently move the brush back and forth in the direction of the hairline to remove any caked-on dirt.

For mirror-finished bracelets, use a nylon brush or an old soft toothbrush .

By scrubbing with a brush, you can remove only the dirt without causing any more scratches. Leather bands cannot be cleaned with wet tissues or brushes, so be sure to wipe them frequently with a dry cloth.

Finally, wipe the whole surface dry with a cloth and you're done! Don't forget to wash the cloth you used frequently!

Extra Edition: How to store your watch

Finally, I would like to briefly explain how to store luxury watches, which is a question I am often asked about in addition to maintenance.

First, regarding the orientation of the watch when you take it off and put it down, there is no rule that says "You have to put it in this orientation!" For watches that use a screw-down crown like Rolex, I think it's fine to place the crown facing down.

* Screw-in crown type

Another useful thing to know about storage methods is the adjustment method that utilizes the position difference of a mechanical watch (the change in accuracy depending on the direction of the watch) . The position difference of a luxury watch is different for each watch. For example, a watch may gain 10 seconds a day when the "dial" is facing up, but lose 1 second a day when the "crown" is facing up.

※The dial is facing up

※The crown is facing upwards.

In this example, when you take the watch off and store it, keeping the crown facing up rather than the face facing up will help prevent the watch from running fast.

As mentioned earlier, the positioning of luxury watches varies from one piece to another. What is the best position for your beloved watch? Collect the data and store it in the position that gives you the highest accuracy.
