"Actor's Watch" focuses on watches worn by actors in movies, television, etc.
This is the 14th installment and we will be bringing you "Omega Speedmaster in Movies [Part 2] " .
In the first part, the Omega Speedmaster was prominently worn by "professional" characters who require quick and accurate decision-making skills, such as astronauts, assassins, spies, and newspaper reporters.
What happens in the second half?
"Gravity"
"Gravity" (2013)
"Gravity" depicts the survival of two astronauts who are thrown into space after their space shuttle is destroyed by space debris.
This film leaves the audience with a sense of emptiness and loneliness, as if they were thrown into space, so it is best not to watch it if you hate space . As the title suggests, this is a film that will make you feel the value of gravity.
The Speedmaster Professional is worn by George Clooney in this film, just like in "The Last Target," in which he plays Kowalski, an experienced astronaut who is able to make calm decisions even in the face of crisis.

The Speedmaster that Kowalski wears on top of his space suit has the tachymeter bezel removed, and at first glance it looks like a different watch. I wonder what the intention behind this is, but the details are unknown.
"Money Monster"
"Money Monster" (2016)
A man who lost all his money after believing in an investment TV show bursts into the show, suspecting stock market manipulation. Money Monster is a social suspense film that demands the truth be revealed, armed with guns and bombs.
The Speedmaster is also worn in the film by George Clooney , who plays the investment show host, wearing a solid yellow gold Speedmaster with a black dial (presumably a reference 3195.50.00 or 3195.59.00) .

The reason why George Clooney wears the Speedmaster so often is because he is an ambassador for Omega. We expect to see Omega watches, including the Speedmaster, on the wrists of various characters in the future, so watch lovers should keep an eye on him.
Mechanic: World Mission
“Mechanic: Resurrection” (2016)
Arthur Bishop is a skilled assassin nicknamed "The Mechanic" because he is not swayed by emotions and performs his work with unparalleled precision like a machine. This is the second installment of a suspense action film, a remake of the 1972 film starring Charles Bronson.
The role of Arthur Bishop, aka the Mechanic, is played by Jason Statham , who is well known for his role in the Transporter series. He is also known as a Paneristi (Panerai enthusiast) and often wears Panerai in his films, but in this film he wears a Speedmaster Professional with a leather strap.

Panerai suits Jason Statham, a muscular action star, well, but it seems a bit too much for the character of "The Mechanic" who assassinates his targets like a craftsman, pretending to die in an accident or from natural causes. The Speedmaster's "moderate presence" is not as assertive as the Panerai, so it is more suitable for this movie.
First Man
"First Man" (2018)
"First Man" is a true- life film based on the autobiography of Neil Armstrong, the commander of Apollo 11, which achieved the first human landing on the moon, and takes a look behind the scenes of American space development.
Since this is a movie about the Apollo program, the watch worn in the film is of course a Speedmaster .

Director Damien Chazelle and Ryan Gosling , who worked together on La La Land, have teamed up again to depict the human drama of Captain Armstrong and his family, rather than the space program itself. There must have been a lot of pressure at the time, as it was a project that put America's prestige on the line. The overall film has a dark and heavy feel to it.

Behind this glorious historic achievement lies the suffering of his family and the tragedy of his colleagues. Nevertheless, Armstrong had to make the plan a success, and the Speedmaster supported him. When you think about it this way, the term "Moonwatch" carries even more weight.
"Ultra Seven"
"Ultra Seven" (1967)
The "Japanese TV series in which the Speedmaster appears" that was mentioned in the summary of the first part was, to be precise , "Ultra Seven" (also appeared in "Return of Ultraman"). C2608, who commented on the first part's YouTube stream, "Is it a certain special effects hero series?", was right.
In "Dark Zone" (episode 6), where the Pegassians appear, Speedmaster watches are worn by an Ultra Guard member measuring mysterious radio waves, and by Officer Amagi, who is checking the time for the Pegassians' residential base to be blown up.

It is also worn by Captain Kiriyama in "Android 0 Command" (episode 9), where the Chibull Aliens appear, and by Moroboshi Dan in "Subterranean GO! GO! GO!" (episode 17), where U-Tom appears. It is so highly valued that it seems it must be officially issued to the Ultra Guard.
Judging from the video, the case has no crown guard and there are two lines of writing without "Professional", so it is likely to be the Speedmaster 3rd (from around 1966) .

There is no record of any tie-up with either Omega or Tsuburaya Productions, and the generally accepted theory is that a watch that was worn by a production staff member was used in the filming .
Later, in "The Return of Ultraman" (1971), a Speedmaster with orange chronograph hands nicknamed "Ultraman" was introduced.

After 47 years, in 2018, the commemorative model "Speedmaster Ultraman Limited Edition Speedy Tuesday" was released, achieving the feat of having the name "Ultraman" engraved in the history of the Speedmaster. As a watch and special effects fan, I am very happy about this. Incidentally, the world limited edition of 2012 pieces was sold out in just two hours.
summary
We apologize that this isn't much different from the first installment, but the list of Speedmaster wearers now includes "professionals" whose split-second decisions mean the difference between life and death, such as an astronaut, an assassin, a TV presenter, and an Ultra Guard member.
However, this is not a display of status or individuality, but rather a testament to how practical and reliable the watch is recognized by the world .
If you are a professional who values "practicality" and "simple and sturdy", be sure to consider the OMEGA Speedmaster when choosing a watch. There is no doubt that it will continue to keep accurate time even in outer space or deep underground , and will support your work.
see you!
