hello everyone.
Today, we would like to introduce another extremely rare item that has arrived: the Patek Philippe Nautilus and Tiffany & Co. double-name Ref. 5980/1R-001. The price of Patek Philippe double-name models has been rising more than ever before, so this is a watch that we are very excited about. Please enjoy this article until the end.
[Patek Philippe] and [TIFFANY & CO.]
First of all, I would like to briefly touch on the history of Patek Philippe and Tiffany & Co.
Both companies have a long history, and Patek Philippe watches have been sold at Tiffany & Co. boutiques in the United States since 1851. Although it may not be widely known, Tiffany & Co. is the oldest retailer of Patek Philippe in the United States.
In 2001, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of their partnership, they released the T150 Ref. 5150, a hunter case watch with an annual calendar.
In 2008, the first Patek Philippe salon in the United States opened inside the Tiffany & Co. flagship store on Fifth Avenue in New York, and in 2013, a limited edition Tiffany & Co. annual calendar, Ref. 5396G, was released in commemoration of the fifth anniversary.
Until around 2000, the Tiffany & Co. double name was rare, but the selling price was not that high and it was still easy to buy. Furthermore, even the most popular Nautilus model, the Ref. 5711/1A, sold for around 2.5 million yen new, and I remember it was hard to sell. Looking back, I wish I could go back to those days and buy one. (laughs)
As such, the Patek Philippe sports models and the Tiffany & Co. double-name models have been extremely popular recently, but it can be said that they have added value because of the deep history and relationship between them.
"Ref.5980/1R-001"
"Nautilus Chronograph TIFFANY & Co." 18KRG
Returning to the main topic, let's talk about the newly arrived "Nautilus Chronograph TIFFANY & Co." "Ref. 5980/1R-001".
In the first place, the base model, "Ref. 5980/1R-001," is rarely seen on the market, so it's easy to imagine how rare it is when it comes to a double-name model with TIFFANY & CO.
The first Nautilus to be equipped with a chronograph was the Ref. 5980/1A-001 with a stainless steel case, which was released in the fall of 2006 to mark the 30th anniversary of the Nautilus.
The design is reminiscent of the "Annual Calendar Chronograph" "Ref. 5960P-001" that we talked about last time. Although this model does not have a second hand, it uses the base movement "Cal. CH28-520," which allows the central chronograph hand to be used as a second hand.
Four years later, in 2010, the Ref. 5980R-001 was released with an 18KRG (rose gold) case and leather strap, and the first time the same color sub-dials were used was with the SS (stainless steel) version with a white dial, released in 2012.
Then, in 2013, the combination model "Ref. 5980/1AR-001" with a vivid blue gradient dial was released, followed by the "Ref. 5980/1R-001" that we will introduce this time.
According to the official website, the dial is described as a black gradient dial, but depending on the light it can look gray or brown, making it a beautiful color. The subdials are the same color, giving it a calm impression.
The most intriguing point about the double-name model with [TIFFANY & CO.] is, "Where on the dial will the name [TIFFANY & CO.] be written?" However, in the case of this "Ref. 5980/1R-001," the name is placed in an exquisite position slightly above the center, giving it a classy double-name feel and making it highly recommended.
The case and bracelet are made of 18KRG (rose gold), so it is probably the heaviest of Patek Philippe's current models, weighing in at about 250g with full links. According to the official website, the case is 12.2mm thick, which makes a big visual impact. Also, when viewed from the side of the case, you can see that the thickness of the links gradually decreases from the case to the buckle. This kind of attention to detail is typical of Patek Philippe.
The skeleton back allows you to enjoy the highly functional movement "Cal. CH 28-520 C", which is equipped with a chronograph with a flyback function that can also be used as a second hand.
This watch was sold in 2016 and has [TIFFANY & CO.] (the shop that sold it) printed on it. For a double-name model, it is essential that the double-name markings are on the dial, but the presence or absence of a warranty and the printing of [TIFFANY & CO.] are also essential.
There are scratches throughout the piece due to use, but it is a one-owner item and comes with a letter from Tiffany & Co. All removed links, adjustment pins, and other accessories are included.
The selling price is 39,985,000 yen (tax included)
The selling price of the regular model "Ref. 5980/1R-001" itself is also rising, so I think this is a good price considering that it is a double-name model with [TIFFANY & CO.].
