Reference 5004
If I had to pick one Patek Philippe watch that makes me feel good in a good way when I see it, from the first time I saw it to the present day, it would definitely be the Ref. 5004 .
I remember that at the time, the PT case model was selling for around 18 million yen.
This is an amazing watch that combines a split-second chronograph with a complex perpetual calendar mechanism. The movement is the Nouvelle Lemania movement [CHR 27-70 Q] developed for Patek Philippe.
The 37mm case feels a little small these days, but the large crown with split button is just the right size, giving off an aura of something extraordinary. The leaf hands and arabic index dial are also exquisitely cool. (*There are other types of dials, such as bar indexes and diamond indexes.)
Case materials are available in YG (yellow gold), RG (rose gold), WG (white gold), and PT (platinum). Each has its own merits, but the most popular combinations are the PT case and RG case with a black dial and Arabic indexes. In terms of numbers, I think the RG case with a black dial combination is less common.
Looking back, I think I have seen an overwhelming number of PT cases. I think that when it comes to this class, there are many people who buy them without considering the asset value, so there are a lot of PT cases.
Personally, I prefer the classic YG case, and my dream would be to pair it with a calfskin strap that has a vintage feel and is a bit of a departure from the norm.
In addition, Commit has sold platinum cases with silver dials and Arabic indexes, platinum cases with black dials and diamond indexes, and silver case with salmon dials and Arabic indexes as special orders.
It is very rare to come across a special order with a bracelet made of the same material as the case, but the incredible aura it emanates is beyond description.
In addition, the "Ref. 3970," which is equipped with a perpetual calendar (not a split-seconds) and a chronograph, has also sold two YG cases and one RG case.
The successor model to the "Ref.3970," the "Ref.5970," also has two platinum cases on sale.
The black dial makes this a very cool watch. I will talk about these two models another time.
"Ref.5004" successor "Ref.5204"
Finally, I would like to briefly talk about the Ref.5204, the successor model to the Ref.5004.
The Ref.5204, developed as the successor to the Ref.5004, is equipped with the CHR29-535 PS Q movement, which adds a split-seconds mechanism to the in-house hand-wound chronograph featured in the Ref.5270 perpetual calendar chronograph released in 2011. A number of technological innovations have been incorporated into this movement, resolving the issue that the previous model had of the second hand having some play in its movement and the two second hands being out of sync.
This is also a rare gem that you rarely get the chance to see, but it still has an outstanding presence.
Our store has sold the PT case and silver dial "5204P-010", as well as the RG case and bracelet model "Ref. 5204/1R-001" shown in the photo above.
This has gotten a little long, but Patek Philippe has many amazing models equipped with tourbillons and minute repeaters. Among them, the watch that I think is the best is definitely the "Ref. 5004" , and it is a watch that I always want to handle.
