The "Ref.14270" was manufactured from E-series to P-series (from around 1991 to 2000).
This is the 4th generation Explorer, which evolved into a more modern style while inheriting the classical design of its predecessor, the Ref.1016, by adopting a sapphire crystal and indices with metal frames.
The piece arriving today is the early "Blackout" model manufactured around 1991.
Among the "Ref.14270" models with tritium lume and a single buckle, this is an overwhelmingly rare model that was produced for only a short period in the early stages.
"Blackout"
A dial found on early "E-series" and "X-series" lots of the "Ref.14270," where the 3, 6, and 9 indices feature black lines instead of white.
As a side note, it’s strangely common to find these on E34 and E81 series pieces. This specific unit is also an E34 series.
The 3, 6, 9 indices with black lines, which are different from the standard model, are the biggest feature, and the unique face—exclusive to early production pieces—is truly charming!!
Furthermore, this specific piece is a "Silver Letter" dial. Packed with early-model details even among the Blackout variants, it is a piece that tickles the fancy of any enthusiast!
Silver Letter x Blackout changes the atmosphere so much that, despite being the same Ref.14270, it feels like an entirely different watch!!
Not only the crown logo, but everything from the minute markers to the "T-SWISS-T＜25" notation is in silver lettering.
While it is not a flashy dial by any means, the combination of the black 3, 6, 9 indices and the silver lettering is incredibly refined.
At first glance, it has a subdued impression, but seeing it in person reveals a unique presence, making it a captivating dial that draws you in the more you look at it!!
An important point: the dial condition is outstandingly good, and it has maintained a clean state overall.
Strangely, there are very few Blackout dials that have suffered deterioration.
The lume is all tritium.
The hands also maintain good lume condition, and the balance with the indices is perfectly aligned!
Precisely because it is a rare model like the Blackout, having all-original tritium is definitely something you want to insist on!!
In terms of condition, there are some minor signs of use on the case and bracelet, but it is an impressive piece that has been kept in relatively beautiful condition.
Look at the condition of the middle case!! You cannot feel any thinning of the case at all.
The hairlines on the crisp lugs are also in beautiful condition! Finding a Blackout in this condition is undoubtedly rare!
The buckle clasp code is "O11"
The consistent single bracelet is crisp, and it is in top condition with no signs of wear or stretching.
Accessories include the box (with reference sticker), warranty card, chronometer tag, EX booklet (89), Oyster booklet (90), calendar (91-92), and extra links.
Having the outer box with the reference sticker included is a nice bonus!!
