The third-generation Explorer “Ref.1016,”
produced for approximately 30 years from around 1959 to around 1990.
With its simple, highly refined design, it is extremely popular among vintage Rolexes,
and is a highly sought-after model that often sells quickly when it arrives at our store!
Various changes to the dial and bracelet can be seen throughout its long production period,
but the piece we are introducing today is a late-production R-series individual among the 1016s!!
While extremely limited-production E-series pieces from the very final period also exist,
R-series and L-series pieces are also highly popular years from just before production ended.
Unlike early- to mid-production pieces overflowing with vintage character,
the appeal of this late-production individual is that you can enjoy the perfected Ref.1016!!
The dial is a period-correct final dialand a well-balanced, popular dial!
The dial shows some small scratches and slight color unevenness.
It may look a bit noticeable in this photo, but in reality, it is not that concerning,
and does not detract from the overall atmosphere!
The dial condition is good for a vintage model!
Late-production pieces tend to show less tritium burn,
and this piece also has minimal lume burn.
The lume is all tritium.
Under a loupe, some minor cracks can be seen in parts,
but the color matches the index lume perfectly!
Although the case and bracelet show minor signs of wear, there are no noticeable scratches,
and it is an excellent individual that maintains a clean overall condition.
The mid-case is in the condition shown!!
It is a sharp-edged case with no excessive thinning and a very good impression.
The lug edge lines and brushing also look great~.
For those looking for a 1016 with sharp edges,
this is the perfect individual!
This is a late-production individual for the Ref.1016,
but it is rare to find a piece that has maintained such good condition
over 30 years since production!!
The clasp code is “M9”
It is equipped with a period-correct single bracelet,
and is in top condition, looking crisp with no signs of stretching!!
The case back still has the Ref. sticker!
Accessories include the box, warranty card, EX booklet (84), Oyster booklet (88),
calendar (89-90), extra links, and a chronometer tag!
