Manufactured for approximately 30 years, from around 1959 to around 1990,the third-generation Explorer "Ref.1016".
With its simple and highly refined design, it is extremely popular among vintage Rolex watches,and is a popular model that often sells out quickly after arriving at our store!
While various changes were made to the dial and bracelet during its long production period,the watch we are introducing this time is an R-serial model, which is a late-model 1016!
Although there are extremely rare final E-serial models,R-serial and L-serial models are also popular years that were produced just before the end of production.
Unlike early to mid-period vintage models,the appeal of a late-model watch lies in being able to enjoy the refined final version of the Ref.1016!
The dial is the final dial, which is period-correct and a popular, well-balanced dial!
The dial shows some minor scratches and slight discoloration.While it may appear somewhat noticeable in this photo, it's not actually that bothersome,and it doesn't detract from the overall appearance of the watch!
The dial condition is good for a vintage model!
Late-model watches typically show less tritium patina,and indeed, the luminosity of this watch is also subdued.
The luminescence is all tritium.While some minor cracks can be seen under a loupe,the color matches the index luminescence perfectly!
The case and bracelet show minor signs of use, but no noticeable scratches,making this an excellent example that has maintained its beautiful overall condition.
Observe the condition of the mid-case!!It's a very impressive, sharp case with no excessive thinning.
The edge lines and hairline finish on the lugs are also excellent.
I believe this is the perfect watch for those looking for a sharp-cased 1016!
Although this is a late-model Ref.1016,it's rare to find a piece in such good condition after more than 30 years since its production!
Clasp code is "M9".
It is equipped with a period-correct single bracelet,and is in top condition with no looseness whatsoever!
