No. 2489 - An exceptional item that stands out! Striking brown change! Rare! MK2 tropical in stock! Introducing a good individual Red Submariner 1680 from 1970!

Hello! This is Kaneko from Commit Ginza, here to introduce a recommended timepiece! Today, I’m presenting a rare vintage Submariner!!

The Ref. 1680 is the first Submariner to feature a date display. This is an early model produced from 1969 to around 1975, characterized by the word "SUBMARINER" in red, commonly known as the "Red Sub."

The piece we have just received is the "Meter First" model, which is particularly difficult to obtain even among Red Submariners.

The "Meter First," where the 200m depth rating comes first, is a classic early matte dial model.

While the Meter First was produced from 1969 to around 1970, Red Submariners are classified into MK1 through MK3 within the Meter First category.

The one I am introducing today is the second dial version, the "MK2." The features of the MK2 dial include the "open 6" in "660ft" and, while not as pronounced as the MK1, a "long f" where the top part of the 'f' is extended.

This is a particularly rare dial even among Red Subs, and it is not often that we get the chance to stock one in our shop.

The red text printed over the white text—often called the "Panchira" (peek-a-boo) red font—is another detail that adds to the charm of a vintage piece.

Furthermore, this specific watch is a rare brown dial that has aged into a deep tropical color, a feature found on only a tiny fraction of MK2/MK3 dials!

Regardless, this dial has such a wonderful hue.

Honestly, it is quite rare to encounter a piece that has aged into such a beautiful, intense brown.

Its one-of-a-kind aging gives it a presence that truly stands out from the rest!!

The dial condition is excellent, and the surface is in top-notch shape.

If you look closely, there is a tiny chip in the luminous material at the 8 o'clock position, but with a dial of this caliber, it exudes such an overwhelming presence that you won't even notice it.

The aging of the hands is also quite nice.

The luminous material on the hands is in good condition and balances well with the index lume.

The bezel is equipped with a gray-faded MK2 "Long 5" insert!

The combination of the gradient-faded insert and the brown dial is exquisitely cool!!

While there are some signs of use, the case and bracelet are in good condition!

As you can see, the middle case is solid.

The lugs are sturdy, giving the watch a rugged and powerful look!!

The clasp is stamped with 70.3.

The 9315 folded bracelet (FF280) is in great condition with almost no sign of stretching!

It has such a great look.
I highly encourage you to see it in person and experience that overwhelming presence for yourself.

I'm sure you'll find yourself staring at it and thinking, "Wow, this is amazing..." (lol)
