Since its birth in 1953, the Rolex Explorer has evolved as a "watch for adventurers."
Among them, the Ref. 14270 was introduced in 1990 as the successor to the vintage Ref. 1016.
It underwent a major transformation into a modern design, adopting a sapphire crystal and metal indexes.
The subsequent Ref. 114270 can be considered a perfected model that inherited the traditional 36mm case while evolving its internal mechanism.

① Dial
The dial of the "Ref. 14270" has undergone subtle specification changes over time and is categorized into several variations.
◯ Blackout

This is a rare type found in the initial production lots of the "Ref. 14270," commonly known as "Blackout."
The Arabic numeral indexes at 3, 6, and 9 are painted black, and the entire dial is unified with silver text.
It is characterized by the contrast between the three-dimensional matte indexes and the black background, giving it a unique, subdued atmosphere.
Additionally, "Silver Letter" and "White Letter" variations exist.
Types with silver printed letters and scales are called "Silver Letter,"
while those printed in white are called "White Letter."
Both are rare and highly popular among collectors, but the Silver Letter is particularly highly regarded.
◯ Tritium Lume Period

This is a widely seen specification in the market, where the dial design entered a stable period.
The crown mark is slightly elongated, and the balance of the letter printing is refined, giving it a modern impression.
Tritium is used for the luminous paint, and "T SWISS – T < 25" is inscribed at the 6 o'clock position.
The metal parts of the Arabic numeral indexes also have a gloss, achieving both legibility and a sense of luxury.
◯ Luminova Lume Period

The Mk4, which appeared as the final specification, changed the luminous marking from "T SWISS – T < 25" to "SWISS."
This marking, produced for a short period from 1997 to 1999, indicates the transition to early Luminova.
From 1999 onwards, the marking became "SWISS MADE," and the luminous material was changed to Super-LumiNova.
Watches from this transition period are limited in number and are particularly noteworthy in later years.

A characteristic feature is that it retains its beautiful white luminescence for a long time, with minimal aging and yellowing.
◯ Luminova Lume

The font of the chronometer inscription became bolder, giving it a more powerful impression.
Solid lugs without holes were adopted on the case sides, resulting in what can be called the perfected form of the modern Explorer.
The "Cal. 3130" movement offers excellent stability and durability, representing a significant evolution from the "Cal. 3000."
3. Bracelet
Both "Ref. 14270" and "Ref. 114270" feature an Oyster bracelet.
Early "Ref. 14270" models used the 78360 reference bracelet,
