"Omega's Recommended Model Snoopy Award"

Snoopy

Omega's history began in 1848 when watchmaker Louis Brandt established a workshop in Switzerland. In 1894, the brand announced the Cal.19 line, a high-quality movement at the time, and named it Omega (Ω) after the last letter in the Greek alphabet, with the meaning of "ultimate." In 1903, the word Omega was adopted as the company name. Omega watches are broadly divided into four series, and these four collections include the Speedmaster, Seamaster, De Ville, and Constellation. Omega watches are also fun to watch with various collaborations such as NASA, 007, and the Olympics. This time, I would like to introduce the Snoopy series, which is a very popular Omega model that was announced in 2020 and became a hot topic.

①Speedmaster Professional Snoopy Award 3578.51

This collaboration watch with Snoopy was created in 2003 and features a large design of Snoopy as an astronaut on the dial at 9 o'clock and on the case back. This Snoopy Award is a limited edition model released to commemorate the Snoopy Award, which is given to companies and individuals who have contributed to NASA's space exploration programs.

Although it is a limited edition, 5,441 pieces were produced, which is derived from the total duration of the Apollo 13 mission, 142 hours , 54 minutes and 41 seconds .

The back cover is engraved with a serial number certifying the limited number and the words "The Moon Watch Snoopy Award Limited Edition."

"Keep your faith in yourself" is also a famous quote from Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th President of the United States, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Eyes on the stars It is engraved with the message, "Look at the stars and see your feet on the ground."

The list price at the time of sale was 367,500 yen, but it is currently trading for nearly 1.5 million yen.

Our store, Commit Ginza, has sold unused items once before, but the price has increased significantly since then (February 2018).

②Speedmaster Apollo 13 45th Anniversary Snoopy Award 311.32.42.30.04.003

This model was released in 2015 to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Snoopy Award. Only 1,970 pieces were sold to commemorate the year of the award.

At the 9 o'clock position on the dial, Snoopy mutters, "Fall is not an option." This is a line spoken by Gene Kranz (flight director) of NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) in the movie "Apollo 13." It is said that he was the chief controller at the time of the accident and uttered the words with the determination to return the astronauts to Earth.

The phrase was inspired by an accident. Apollo 13 had an accident where an oxygen tank in the service module exploded due to a short circuit in an electrical wire, causing a spark, and the spacecraft was drifting off its return trajectory to Earth. If the trajectory continued to deviate, it would either continue to wander in space or enter the atmosphere and burn up. There was only one chance to survive, and that was to correct the trajectory by firing the engines for exactly 14 seconds at the specified time.

Because the automatic guidance system had been damaged in the accident, the astronauts had to time those 14 seconds manually, and the only way to do so was with an OMEGA Speedmaster chronograph. The Speedmaster accurately measured the 14-second injection time, which was key to returning the crew safely to Earth.

Between 0 and 14 seconds on the dial, the words "What could you do in 14 seconds?" are engraved, and 14 square frames, which represent Snoopy's cartoons, are arranged. Isn't this a clever touch?

The case back features a hand-engraved Snoopy engraving.

The domestic list price (when it was first released) was 766,800 yen, but the current price on Chrono24 (overseas site) is a whopping 4 million yen... I like this second model better than the first model, but it's no longer affordable (lol).

summary

I hope you enjoyed reading about the three Snoopy Award models. These are models that collectors will covet, so fans will want to collect the whole series.

However, although Snoopy is very "cute", discontinued models come with a premium, and the price is not so "cute" (lol).

We at Commit Ginza are also actively involved in transactions, so please feel free to contact us with any enquiries you may have!
