"Actor's Watch" focuses on watches worn by actors in movies, television, etc.
This time, in our 98th installment, we will continue from last time and introduce " Orlando Bloom's watch."
☞ Read #97 "Orlando Bloom's Watch: He's Actually a Watch Enthusiast"
This time, as a "special edition," I would like to focus on the watches that Orlando Bloom loves to wear in his private life. This is because the watches he wears on a daily basis are all "masterpieces that watch lovers will love."
So let's take a look.
Patek Philippe
Nautilus Jumbo [Ref.3700/1]
*Source: https://deployant.com/
The first watch is a Patek Philippe Nautilus worn on the arm of a woman holding a child. The two hands make the lug line look straight, so it is probably the first Nautilus (Ref. 3700/1) . The Ref. 3700/1, which appeared in 1976, was nicknamed "Jumbo" because of its enormous size at the time, measuring 42mm including the lugs. The unique octagonal design, based on a porthole motif, was created by Gerald Genta, who created the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak the previous year.
When talking about the Nautilus, many people would probably first think of the Ref. 5711, which was released in 2006, 30 years after its first release. However, Orlando Bloom's strong commitment to watches can be seen in his choice of the Ref. 3700, the origin of Patek Philippe's sports models, rather than the modern reimagined Ref. 5711.
Panerai
Luminor Marina 8 Days [Ref.PAM00511]

Next up is the Panerai Luminor Marina 8 Days (Ref. PAM00511) . Panerai watches were designated a military secret since they had been supplied to the Italian Navy since the 1910s, and sales to the public were prohibited. When the designation was lifted in 1992 and sales to the public began, Hollywood stars and celebrities were instantly captivated by Panerai's military watch features, such as a "huge case" and "crown protector" for increased robustness, a "sandwich dial" for improved visibility, and strong luminous material. In the 2000s, Panerai also played a key role in the "big and thick" boom.
The "Ref. PAM00511" worn by Orlando Bloom is a part of the " 8 Days " series released in 2013. While its appearance is the same as the basic "Luminor Marina", it combines a classic sandwich dial with the advanced in-house movement "Cal. P.5000", making it a model that links Panerai's past and future.
Radiomir 1936 [Ref. PAM00249]

Next up is the Radiomir (Ref. PAM00249 ) . This is a faithful reproduction of the "Panerai First Model" manufactured at the request of the Italian Navy in 1936. It is a rare model released in 2006 with a worldwide limited edition of only 1,936 pieces.
With an impressive case size of 47mm, it features what is commonly known as a " California dial ," with Roman indexes on the upper half of the dial and Arabic numerals on the lower half. The burnt-look indexes and plastic crystal give it an even more classic feel.
This is also a reproduction of the historical model that marked the start of Panerai watches, and it shows Orlando Bloom's extraordinary respect for the history of watches.
IWC
Doppelchronograph [Ref.IW3786]
*Source: https://deployant.com/
Next up is the IWC Doppelchronograph (Ref. IW378601 ) . "Doppel" means "double" or "twofold" in German, and the model name Doppelchronograph stands for " split-second chronograph ."
The impressive dimensions of the watch, 44mm diameter x 17mm thickness, are due to the incorporation of a soft iron inner case to protect the watch from the magnetic forces emitted by the cockpit instruments, but the combination of black ceramic and titanium has made it lightweight at just 118g.
This is another watch that combines the history and modernity of a pilot's watch.
Big Pilot Watch [Ref.IW5002]
*Source: https://www.lecalibre.com/
Next up is the IWC Big Pilot's Watch (Ref. IW5002 ) . The shot with Kirsten Dunst suggests that this is a promotional photo from around the time of " Elizabethtown, " which we introduced last time.
This watch was released in 2002 and was inspired by the big pilot's watch Caliber 52 TSC ( Ref. IW431) made in the 1940s. The original 55mm case size was too large, so it was refined to a "modern giant case size" of 46.2mm, but the large crown, which is easy to operate even while wearing pilot's gloves, remains the same as the original.
Orlando Bloom was only 28 years old when this photo was taken. Although he had already become a star actor through his appearances in " Lord of the Rings " and " Pirates of the Caribbean ," the fact that he had chosen this model, which symbolizes the history of pilot watches, since his 20s shows that his "love for watches" was not something he picked up overnight, but something that was deeply rooted in his lifestyle.
Vintage Rolex
Explorer II [Ref.1655]
*Source: https://www.bobswatches.com/
Finally, we will introduce two vintage Rolexes. First up is the Explorer II (Ref. 1655) . Nicknamed after the star actor Steve McQueen, who was used in the advertisements, this is a very massive and masculine model with a unique style. It is designed for use in places where it is not clear whether it is day or night, such as cave exploration, and features an eye-catching orange 24-hour hand.
Orlando Bloom's styling is particularly noteworthy. He wears his "Ref. 1655" on a leather band strap instead of the original bracelet, showing off a classier style. Among the many Rolexes, the Explorer II is designed to be worn in particularly extreme situations. The change to a band strap, which stabilizes the watch on the wrist and prevents sweat from entering, can be said to be a customization by an enthusiast who is familiar with the watch's backbone and functions.
Submariner British Military Model [Ref.5517]
*Source: https://www.accessonline.com/
The last model we'd like to introduce is the Submariner British military model (Ref. 5517) . Manufactured in the 1960s and 1970s based on the Submariner (Ref. 5513) at the request of the British military, the "Ref. 5517" is an ultra-rare model known in Japan as the " Military Sub " or " Milisub (Military Sub) ."
The main differences from the "Ref. 5513" are the "sword hand", "arrow second hand", "bezel with minute markings", "T (tritium) mark at 6 o'clock", "spring bar fixed by welding", and "broad arrow and serial number engraving on the back cover". It is a rare item with very few in circulation, and it is rare to have the opportunity to see the real thing.
Orlando Bloom casually wears museum-quality models like these, and both luxury and rare vintage watches seem like an extension of his body.
summary
What did you think?
In the past, we introduced the many extremely rare watches worn by Mark Wahlberg , which are flashy and not at all casual, but Orlando Bloom has shown us a completely different, extremely cool love for watches. I had to introduce him to you! Do you understand my feelings?
☞ Read #43 "Mark Wahlberg's 'Extremely Rare' Watch"
I have some sad news to share with you. Around 2010, a group of thieves broke into Orlando Bloom's house and stole many of the watches we introduced here. Many of the watches were recovered through police investigations, but some are still missing.
This case, in which young people hoping to become Hollywood celebrities formed a gang of thieves and committed numerous thefts, was made into a movie titled " The Bling Ring " (2013), which even uses some news footage from the time, featuring Orlando Bloom.
I would like to recommend to all watch enthusiasts out there that you should store your watches in a safe place, and I would like to summarize my advice here.
see you!
