Whether you own a luxury watch or not, everyone has probably wondered at some point, "Which model is popular?" Whether your motivation is "I want a popular, classic model!" or "I want a model that no one else has!" , finding out which models are actually popular is difficult unless you get real-time information.

This time, we'll be revealing the top 5 semi-vintage Rolex models (models with 5-digit model numbers) that were sold at Commit Ginza (hereinafter referred to as "our store") from January to March 2026! We hope you'll enjoy looking at them and trying to imagine the rankings along with us.

5th place

GMT Master II "Ref. 16710"

Coming in at number 5 is the long-selling "GMT-Master II" Ref. 16710, which debuted in 1988.

To differentiate it from the GMT-Master sold around the same time, the original GMT-Master II "Ref. 16760" was only available with a red and black bezel. However, the "Ref. 16710" revived the red and blue and black bezel options, significantly increasing its popularity. As a long-selling model, it has undergone several minor changes, but the "stick dial" found in models from 2005 to 2008 (serial numbers D, Z, and M) is particularly popular. While this is just one option, if your child's birth year falls within this period, you might consider using it yourself and then giving it to them as a coming-of-age gift. ( Stick dial: A model where the "II" in the model name "GMT-Master II" at the 6 o'clock position on the dial is printed as "||" without the upper and lower horizontal lines. )

4th place

Submariner "Ref. 16610LV"

In fourth place is the "Ref. 16610LV," which was created in 2003 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Submariner and features green, the corporate color of Rolex.

Manufactured until around 2010, this model is popular for its textured green aluminum bezel. The green bezel, a tradition passed down through generations, was changed to a Cerachrom bezel in the successor model, "Ref. 116610LV," making this first-generation model's color truly unique. Furthermore, pieces with features such as the "Flat 4" and "Big Swiss" logos enjoy enduring popularity and often fetch high prices. Considering its design, functionality, and investment potential, this is a highly recommended timepiece .

3rd place

Explorer II "Ref. 16570"

In third place is the Explorer II "Ref. 16570," which boasts excellent practicality with features such as GMT function and date display.

Among the stainless steel (SS) sports models, this model, like the Daytona, is available with both black and white dials. Depending on the year of manufacture, the dial texture may differ, and some models may have aged and the luminous material may have yellowed, offering the pleasure of finding your preferred look. The successor models, "Ref. 216570" and "Ref. 226570," have larger case sizes of 42mm, so the 40mm size, which is more comfortable on Japanese wrists, is likely to become increasingly in demand in the future.

2nd place

Explorer "Ref. 14270"

Coming in at second place is the "Ref. 14270" from the Explorer series, which, due to its simple design, is often chosen as an entry-level luxury watch.

True to its concept of being "a watch made for adventurers," this timepiece boasts a robust case and a highly legible dial, making it extremely user-friendly. Its versatility, suitable for both formal and casual occasions, combined with its accessible price range, makes it a very popular choice. It's also attracting attention as a leading candidate for the next vintage model, and the "early models" with a single buckle and horizontal holes on the case sides are especially recommended for those who want to choose a watch with a strong investment potential.

1st place

Daytona "Ref. 16520"

The prestigious first place goes to the "Ref. 16520" with a black dial, the fourth generation of the "Daytona," which was manufactured from around 1988 (R series) to around 2000 (A series).

This watch features an automatic movement based on Zenith's "El Primero," a renowned chronograph movement, and is one of the most popular Rolex models. There are individual differences depending on the manufacturing period, and those with sub-dials that have faded to a brown color, commonly known as "Patrici (Brown Eye)," are particularly rare and command high prices. Due to the wide variety of specifications, many people find it confusing. We recommend that you first consult with a reliable appraiser or staff member before purchasing.

summary

What did you think?

As expected, the popular Daytona held a strong lead, but other popular models such as the entry-level Explorer, the colorful Submariner, and the GMT-Master II also made it into the rankings.

Semi-vintage models often feature minor changes over time, and their appearance and value vary significantly from year to year. Furthermore, they are "limited-quantity discontinued models" that tend to retain their value and whose supply does not increase, making them noteworthy investments for the future. However, not just any semi-vintage model will do, so please feel free to contact us if you are considering buying or selling. We will provide appropriate advice based on your needs and circumstances.

We hope this article will be helpful in your trading decisions. Please look forward to our next ranking of the number of transactions!
