This time, we would like to introduce the successor model to the "Ref. 5196" that has just arrived. Please read to the end!

The Calatrava Ref. 6169P-001 was released in 2025 as the successor to the Ref. 5196.

The contrast between the polished surface of the case (including the bezel and lugs) and the satin finish on the sides creates a simple yet beautiful finish. The unchanging design inherited from the first Calatrava "Ref. 96" is always a sight to behold.

Still, I was surprised to see that only the PT (platinum) model was announced.

Here I would like to briefly touch on the history of Calatrava.

When talking about the Calatrava, one cannot leave out the Ref. 96, popularly known as "Kunroku," which appeared in 1932 as the first Calatrava.

This model features a simple and functional design and is said to be a model for today's wristwatches. It was also a long-selling model, and is said to have been manufactured for over 40 years until the early 1970s.

In 1982, about 10 years after production of the Ref. 96 ended, its successor model, the Ref. 3796, was released to revive the classic (return to basics) style.

It has a diameter of about 30 to 31 mm, a sapphire crystal winding, and the hand-wound movement has been updated to "Cal. 215." One of the attractions of this model is the wide variety of models available, including a Japan-only model with a see-through case back, as well as variations in the dial, and it remains a very popular model to this day.

The Ref. 5196 was released in 2004 in a 37mm size, inheriting the authentic design of the Calatrava.

The movement continues to use the "Cal.215 PS", but the case is available in four materials: 18KYG (yellow gold), 18KRG (rose gold), 18KWG (white gold), and PT (platinum). In addition, only the PT (platinum) case is differentiated, with a diamond embedded at the 6 o'clock position on the case, and the dial features a combination of two-tone Breguet numeral indexes and leaf hands. Although production will unfortunately end in 2022, it still enjoys strong popularity.

Now, let's return to the "Ref. 6169P-001".

The case diameter is 38mm, which is slightly larger (1mm) than the "Ref. 5196." We have "Ref. 5196" models in PT (platinum) and 18KWG (white gold) in stock, so we would like you to compare them.

This watch has a beautiful rose gold-plated opaline dial, with white gold hands and bullet-shaped hour markers, making it highly legible and well-balanced. The basic design of the dial is the same as the 18KWG (white gold) model of the "Ref. 5196", but the impression is completely different.

A diamond is set at the 6 o'clock side of the case, which is a unique feature of this PT (platinum) model.

Although the size has increased slightly to 38mm, the dial design is well-balanced thanks to the new movement, "Cal.30-255PS," which has been enlarged to a diameter of 31mm.

The 37mm diameter "Ref.5196" was equipped with the "Cal.215 PS" movement, which was about 10mm smaller in diameter at 21.9mm, so the small second hand was positioned slightly closer to the center. On the other hand, the "Ref.6196" was equipped with a larger movement, which lowered the position of the small second hand and improved the balance on the dial.

It has a very impressive design when viewed from the skeleton back. However, it is not just bigger, but also more functional, with a 65-hour long power reserve and a hack function (the second hand stops when the crown is pulled).

The warranty date is 2025. This is a relatively recently sold item, and all accessories, including the box, booklets, and leather pass case to store the warranty, are in very good condition.
