Good evening everyone.
Patek Philippe announces models that will be discontinued at the beginning of February every year, but do you know which models will be discontinued in 2024? We have already announced this through our column articles and various SNS media, but this time, it is particularly unusual that several popular models have been discontinued. I'm sure there are many people who are disappointed, but I am actually hoping that there will be some big announcement at "Watches & Wonders GENEVA 2024" in early April. From now on, I think there will be a lot of information about new products in various places, but it might be fun to make your own hypotheses based on the historical background, high demand, recent market trends, etc.!
This time, for those who are not familiar with the lineup of models that will be discontinued in 2024, we would like to introduce the popular models. Please read to the end!
"Ref.5164A-001"
"Aquanaut Travel Time" SS
The Aquanaut Travel Time, Ref. 5164A-001, released in 2011, has the same 40.8mm case as the Ref. 5167A-001 and is equipped with a Travel Time mechanism.
Despite being equipped with a complex mechanism, this watch boasts an exceptional wearing comfort thanks to its case thickness being kept to 10.2mm. The buckle was updated to the latest specifications from around 2021, and from around May 2022, the new movement "Cal.26-330 SC FUS" will be installed. These models may become more differentiated in the future. This is a very popular model both domestically and internationally, so it is one that is sure to see a significant increase in value in the secondary market.
"Ref.5712G-001" and "Ref.5712R-001"
"Nautilus Petite Complication" 18KWG/18KRG
The "Ref. 5712G-001" and "Ref. 5712R-001" models equipped with "petite complications" were released in 2006 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the birth of the Nautilus.
The 18KWG (white gold) case has a cool slate dial, while the 18KRG (rose gold) case has a black-brown dial and an alligator strap of the same color, giving it a design that is both elegant and warm. The movement visible through the sapphire crystal skeleton back is the "Cal.240 PS +IRM +C +LU", based on the ultra-thin "Cal.240" with a micro rotor that was released in 1977. Despite being equipped with a petite complication mechanism, the case diameter is kept to 40mm and the thickness to just 8.52mm, making it an "excellent" watch that is stress-free to wear.
"Ref.5980R-001"
"Nautilus Chronograph" 18KRG
The Nautilus Chronograph "Ref. 5980R-001" was released in 2010 and has an elegant look with an 18KRG (rose gold) case, black-brown dial, and alligator strap.
This beautiful model features a distinctive design with a silver-based subdial at 6 o'clock, and is both elegant and sporty. It comes with a leather strap, and is relatively affordable among the Nautilus Chronograph series, but it is one of the models that we haven't had in stock for a long time, and it is not widely available on the market, so its popularity may cause the price to rise sharply in the future.
"Ref.5980/1R-001"
"Nautilus Chronograph" 18KRG
The rare model "Nautilus Chronograph" "Ref. 5980/1R-001" released in 2013 exudes a luxurious yet sophisticated look.
Unlike the aforementioned "Ref. 5980R-001," the sub-dials are the same color, giving this watch a calm impression. By the way, this dial can look gray or brown depending on how the light hits it, so I think it's a watch that you can enjoy for a long time without getting bored. In terms of practicality, the case diameter is 40.5mm and the weight is 250g, which is a heavy specification, but the bracelet is comfortable on the wrist, so it's a wonderful finish that doesn't make you feel tired even if you wear it all day. I never thought that production would end, but let's wait patiently for a replacement model to appear in the future.
"Ref.5980/1AR-001"
"Nautilus Chronograph" SS/18KRG
The Nautilus Chronograph "Ref. 5980/1AR-001" was released in 2013 and features a combination case and bracelet of SS (stainless steel) and 18KRG (rose gold) with a vivid blue gradient dial.
When it comes to combination models from Patek Philippe, the combination of SS (stainless steel) and 18KYG (yellow gold) was the mainstream, so this model, which created a lot of excitement when it was released, has a beautiful contrast between the blue gradient dial and the 18KRG (rose gold) bezel, giving it a sporty feel. In addition, the skeleton back allows you to view the flyback function chronograph movement "Cal. CH 28-520 C", which is truly a work of art, so it is a magnificent masterpiece that can be enjoyed from both the front and back.
