hello everyone.
It's mid-July, and the Olympics would have been just around the corner! Unfortunately, they have been postponed, and most summer vacation events (summer festivals, fireworks displays, etc.) have been canceled, but I feel that the resumption of professional sports (with spectator numbers gradually increasing) is a positive development. The relationship between the pandemic and the economy is a very difficult issue, but I can only hope that things will move in a positive direction.
Well, in the midst of all this, today was the day of the Hong Kong This article will cover the latest news on the PHILLIPS watch auction, focusing on Patek Philippe, based on official data from PHILLIPS. It is an auction that we also participate in person every year. As expected, this time we participated online, but there were many items on offer that were more collectible than regular models, items that are rarely seen on the market, and items that are very popular, so I think it was very interesting. I hope you will enjoy it until the end.
*The price is the winning auction price plus a commission fee (25%).
*The Japanese yen rate will be based on the exchange rate on the day of the auction.

Lot.877 World Time Cloisonné 18KRG
Ref.5131R-011
Successful bid: HKD 875,000 (JPY 12,468,750)
This model has been sold in the past at Commit Ginza as a sealed item (unopened plastic) and as a used, mint condition item. The cloisonné dial is very beautiful and you can see the Japanese design, making it a watch I really like.
Lot.878 World Time Moon Phase 175th Anniversary Model 18KWG Limited to 1300 pieces worldwide
Reference 5575G-001
Successful bid: HKD 687,500 (JPY 9,796,875)
This is also a model that Commit Ginza has sold three unused items in the past. A moon phase was added to the world time for this model. When you see the actual product, it's simply cool. This model sells quickly when it arrives.
Lot.881 World Time Cloisonné 18KYG
Reference 5231J-001
Successful bid: HKD 750,000 (JPY 10,687,500)
This is a new model for 2019, a cloisonné model housed in a new world time case. It is not available yet, so it is one that I would love to see in person. If you have one, please come and show it to us! (laughs)
Lot.912 Nautilus Diamond Bezel 18KWG
Reference 5713/1G-010
Successful bid: HKD 937,500 (JPY 13,359,375)
This jumbo-sized Nautilus has an 18KWG (white gold) case and diamonds on the bezel. It didn't seem to be as popular as expected when it was first released, but the number of units produced was very small, and with the current popularity of the Nautilus, the price has skyrocketed.
Lot.913 Nautilus Perpetual Calendar 18KWG
Reference 5740/1G-001
Successful bid: HKD 1,500,000 (JPY 21,375,000)
The new model for 2018, the Nautilus Perpetual Calendar. The 18KWG (white gold) case is not too big or thick, but has an exquisite size that is not too big or too thick, even though it is equipped with a perpetual calendar. Patek Philippe, which has finished it to this specification, can only say that it is an excellent product. Although it is a current model, there are only a few in stock, and it is priced at a premium in the market.
Lot.914 Perpetual Calendar Chronograph Platinum
Reference 3970EP-019
Successful bid: HKD 93,750 (JPY 13,359,375)
This model has been out of production for over 15 years, but the "Ref. 3970" with a Lemania-based movement is a very popular watch. The fact that this product is sealed (unopened) is a plus point. One thing that bothers me is that, while a diamond dial would normally have baton-shaped hands, this one has leaf-shaped hands.
Lot.915 Perpetual Calendar Chronograph 18KRG
Reference 5270/1R-001
Successful bid: HKD 1,000,000 (JPY 14,250,000)
Released in 2018, the perpetual calendar chronograph "Ref. 5270" is a fully-braceleted model with an 18KRG (rose gold) case. To be honest, I think the person who won the bid got a pretty good deal on this one. I wanted it!! (laughs)
Lot.982 Aquanaut Extra Large Tiffany & Co. S/S
Reference 5167A-001
Successful bid: HKD 675,000 (JPY 9,618,750)
The Aquanaut is a model that needs no introduction and is equally as popular as the Nautilus. With its popular stainless steel material, tropical band and double name "Tiffany", it's no wonder that it's expensive.
Lot.998 Perpetual Calendar Chronograph 18KYG
Reference 2499/100
Successful bid: HKD 4,750,000 (JPY 67,687,500)
The fourth generation of the perpetual calendar chronograph "Ref.2499", the "Ref.2499/100" features sapphire crystal. The engraving on the back of the lugs is still in good condition, and this watch fetched a high price. This watch is a true collection piece that will be difficult to find in the future.
Lot.1005 Perpetual Calendar Chronograph 18KYG
Reference 3970E
Successful bid: HKD 562,500 (JPY 8,015,625)
The Ref.3970E is the second generation of the perpetual calendar chronograph "Ref.3970" and features baton-shaped indexes and leaf-shaped hands. The case is a closed screw-back case only. This watch comes with a warranty and is suitable for collections.
Lot.1041 Perpetual Calendar Chronograph Platinum
Reference 5270P-001
Successful bid: HKD 1,375,000 (JPY 19,593,750)
This perpetual calendar chronograph with a platinum case was released together with the "Ref. 5270/1R-001" in 2018. Although it is a current model, the winning bid price shows its popularity.
We also recently put it on sale at Commit Ginza, but it was SOLD OUT in the same day.
Lot.1056 Calatrava Perpetual Calendar Retrograde Platinum
Reference 5050
Successful bid: HKD 875,000 (JPY 12,468,750)
This model has a relatively thin Calatrava case with a perpetual calendar and a retrograde function. It may seem a little small, but the case size and the design of the dial and hands make it an exquisitely well-balanced watch. I think the reason for the high price was that the original owner was a famous person.
Lot.1069 Perpetual Calendar Chronograph 18KWG
Reference 5970G-001
Successful bid: HKD 1,125,000 (JPY 16,031,250)
The popular perpetual calendar chronograph "Ref. 5970" in an 18KWG (white gold) case. Looking at the dial and the color of the hands, this is the coolest and most stylish watch. I feel like it's becoming harder to find these on the market these days. This is one watch I would like to wear myself.
summary
That's all. As this is my first auction report, I tried to write an article that is simple, easy to understand, and informative based on the results, but I hope you enjoyed it. There were several thousand items up for auction, and many other Patek Philippe watches were up for auction, but this time I'm going to introduce the models that caught my eye, including the results.
By the way, many of the models I have written about in my columns so far are also on display, and as always, I am truly impressed by how Patek Philippe is truly a brand.
Also, compared to before, it seems like the auction winning price and the market price are now almost equal. I think it is very important to look at these global auctions in order to know the exact "fair price."
This was the first time we streamed an auction in real time in our store, and it was a very meaningful endeavor, with a good response and a learning experience for the staff. We hope to be able to deliver it to even more customers next time.
This time I wrote about the PHILLIPS auction, so next time I would like to talk about the results of the Sotheby's and Christie's auctions held in Hong Kong.
