It was born in 1992 (introduced at Baselworld in 1993), about 20 years after the Royal Oak was introduced in 1972. It has a powerful design based on the first Royal Oak created by Gerald Genta. The designer was Emmanuel Guillet, a young in-house designer at the time.

New for 2017, this is a full-fledged diver's watch with a robust stainless steel case that is water resistant to 300m.

The design features a blue dial with a "Mega Tapestry" pattern, complemented by applied white gold hour markers and Royal Oak hands with luminescent treatment. The watch has a see-through back and is equipped with the Audemars Piguet self-winding movement "Cal.4308", which has a 60-hour power reserve.
