The third generation Explorer "Ref. 1016" manufactured from around 1960 to around 1989
This is an R number 1016, a later model year.
There is also the E series, which is produced in extremely limited numbers.
The R and L numbers are popular model years that are nearing the end of production.
The dial is the MK5, featuring a sharp logo that matches the era.
The dial condition is very good.

It is in perfect condition with no scratches or stains.
The luminous material is all tritium.
The luminous hands are in excellent condition with no cracks visible.
Since older models are less likely to burn,
The luminous burn is subtle.
The dial condition is also attractive.
