This is the first-generation Submariner Date, Ref. 1680.
This is an early model, commonly known as the [Red Sub], which features the "SUBMARINER" logo in red and was manufactured from around 1969 to 1975.
It is a quintessential model that boasts immense popularity among vintage watches. The piece I am introducing today is a highly recommended item that allows you to enjoy aging unique to vintage watches, so if you have been searching for one, please be sure to check it out!

The dial is a period-correct MARK 4. It features a dial where the "f" and "t" in the 660ft waterproof rating are not on the same horizontal line, and it is also characterized by an open 6.
While the MK4 dial is relatively common among Red Subs, it feels like the availability of Red Subs themselves has been decreasing recently.

What I want you to pay attention to with this specific piece is the rare tropical dial that has aged into a brown color!!
When talking about tropical Red Subs, MK2/MK3 dials are well-known, but this particular piece features an MK4 dial.
An MK4 that has aged so beautifully into brown is extremely rare, making this a truly special piece that one rarely encounters!!
I have seen many Red Subs in my time, but this is the first time I have seen an MK4 tropical dial in person!!

Here is a side-by-side comparison with another piece featuring the same MK4 dial!!
What do you think?? Seeing it lined up next to a black dial, the brown hue of the tropical dial is even more apparent!!
This exquisite brown color is just irresistible!!

Rather than being a solid chocolate, the dial has transformed into an exquisite dark brown that still retains hints of its original black tone!!
The deep brown color complements the matte texture perfectly, giving it a profound, vintage-style look.
Furthermore, the red "SUBMARINER" text combined with the perfectly aged tritium lume creates an incredible atmosphere!!
The balance between the color and the aging is absolutely cool!!
The dial condition is also excellent, maintaining a wonderful state.

The hands feature natural aging, and the unretouched luminous material on them is also in wonderful condition.

The bezel is equipped with a "fat font" MK3 insert that has faded beautifully.
This bezel is a perfect fit for a piece from the early 70s!!

Looking closely at the "40" position, it features the early specification known as the "Kissing 4," where the numbers "4" and "0" are touching.
This fat font style is just so cool!!

While there are signs of wear consistent with its age, the case and bracelet are both solid and well-maintained.

The middle case, in particular, is thick and impressive.

As you can see, the lugs are thick and sharp!

The crown guards haven't been rounded off, keeping the case looking rugged and cool.

The bracelet is a rivet bracelet, which is rare for a Red Sub of this era.

The buckle clasp is stamped for the second quarter of 1971. The age matches perfectly!

There is a very natural amount of stretch, but the condition is good!

Wrist shot!! It looks great!! This is a wonderful, one-of-a-kind piece that lets you enjoy the effects of aging over time!

A highly popular vintage model!! 1971 Red Submariner "Ref. 1680/MK4". This is an attractive watch equipped with an extremely rare MK4 tropical dial!! As this is a rare piece that you rarely encounter, it is recommended not only for those searching for a Red Sub but also for vintage Rolex collectors!! For those looking for a highly rare vintage Submariner, please consider this piece.
