The "Ref.1680" was introduced in 1969 as the first Submariner Date model.
Among them, the early models manufactured from 1969 to around 1975, where the "SUBMARINER" text was printed in red, are popular vintage models known as the "Red Sub".
The distinctive design, with the red "SUBMARINER" text as an accent, is, of course, a major draw, but it also boasts high recognition and popularity among vintage Rolex watches, remaining a classic model that continues to captivate many fans!

The dial is MK5.
It features a dial with the horizontal bar of "f" and "t" in "660ft" aligned, and an open "6".
The Red Sub has a rich variety of dial variations, but broadly speaking,
MK1 to MK3 are "meters first" (200m=660ft notation),
and MK4 to MK6 are "feet first" (660ft=200m notation).
The dial is in excellent condition, looking very clean even under a loupe! While many watches of this age show signs of deterioration, it's rare to find one that has maintained such pristine condition!
The tritium luminous material on the indexes is also in excellent overall condition. The patination is subtle, and the clean, slightly off-white color is very appealing!
The luminous material on the hands is also in good condition! There is some very natural age-related deterioration, but there are no noticeable cracks or other flaws, making it a good condition overall.
The MK3 bezel with its fat font is also a charming point! Although there are some minor scratches, the black color is still well-preserved, making for a very appealing insert! Having this insert is a big plus!
The case and bracelet have some signs of use but are in good condition.
The mid-case, in particular, is in good and solid condition!
As you can see, the edges of the lugs are sharp! The hairline finish is also beautiful!
The bracelet is an indispensable folded bracelet for this era's Red Sub.
The clasp on the buckle is stamped 72.2. The crown mark is slightly faded from polishing, but its shape remains distinct. While it's in a condition appropriate for its age, this kind of wear and tear is part of the charm of a vintage piece.
The folded bracelet, which matches the age, has some minor stretch, but it fits comfortably on the wrist, allowing you to enjoy the unique feel of a folded bracelet!
