The first Explorer II "Ref. 1655" manufactured from 1971 to 1983
The dial is characterized by its large orange 24-hour hand and the base of the hand which is painted the same black as the dial, creating a "phantom effect" that makes the luminous parts appear to be floating.
The large 24-hour hand and phantom effect have been inherited by the current model, Ref. 216570.
The watch we are introducing this time was manufactured in 1983, which was the final year of production. The dial is the final model of the original dial , the "Type 5 dial," which matches the time period.
The bezel is a "Type 4" with distinctive "1" and "8" fonts.
The Ref. 1655 is an attractive model with its retro bezel that exudes a vintage atmosphere.
The retro bezel and dial create an irresistible old-fashioned atmosphere.
This plastic windshield, a feature of the 4-digit model, is also nice.
The condition of the bezel and case has some small scratches due to use, but it is not overly finished and is in good condition considering its age.
