The third-generation Explorer "Ref. 1016" was manufactured from around 1959 to around 1990.
This is an R-serial, a late-production model among the 1016s.
While there are extremely few E-serial models produced,
R-serial and L-serial are popular years from just before production ended.
The dial is the correct final dial for its age, manufactured from around 1986 to around 1989,
and is a popular dial with good balance!
The dial condition is beautiful, even under magnification.
The luminous material on the indexes is also in perfect condition.
Late-production models tend to have less tritium patina,
and indeed, the luminous material on this piece also shows minimal patina.
The luminous material is all tritium.
While many hands show some deterioration over time,
this piece maintains a superb condition.
The case and bracelet show minor signs of use, but no noticeable scratches,
making this an excellent piece that maintains an overall beautiful condition.
Take a look at the condition of the middle case!!
It's a very impressive case with no excessive thinning.
The edge lines and hairline finish on the lugs are also excellent.
This is a late-production model for a Ref. 1016,
and it's rare to find a piece in such good condition
after more than 30 years since its production!!
The case sides also have some minor scratches,
but are in beautiful condition!!
The bracelet, with its period-correct clasp code "L11,"
has only a very slight stretch,
and is in good and clean condition!
Accessories include a warranty card, international service warranty card, and booklets!
The fact that the manufacturer's overhaul was completed in May 2024 is a major plus!!
