The third generation Explorer "Ref. 1016" manufactured from around 1959 to around 1989
During the long manufacturing period, various specification changes have been made.
It's a vintage Explorer.
The item we have in stock this time is an early model with a matte dial, manufactured around 1969.
The most attractive feature of this watch is the dial!!
The dial features a crown mark and font that are identical to those of the previous mirror dial.
This is the rarest matte dial and is one of the least common.
This is a comparison photo with our 1016/Mirror (left).
The color of the dial is of course different from the jet black mirror,
Can you see that a very similar crown mark and letters are used?
Here's a close-up comparison image.
It's a very similar letter after all.
It's interesting that there are so few dials like this in existence during the transition period from mirror to matte.
The dial condition is a little bit small with a magnifying glass,
It is in good condition with no noticeable stains or deterioration.
The luminous hands have naturally deteriorated, but are believed to be original from that time.
This is a really cool piece with a beautifully maintained dial and a lovely combination of burnt tritium.
The overall condition is age-appropriate with some scratches,
There are no major scratches and it is in good condition for a vintage model.
The middle case is a sturdy case that does not look overly polished.
The rivet bracelet really suits a watch of this age.
There is some wear and tear appropriate for the age,
The date stamp on the buckle matches perfectly with the 3rd period of 1969!
The plastic windshield is a nice touch too!
Wrist shot!!
It's a matte original dial that you'll love!
The burnt tritium luminous material gives this piece an amazing look!
