Yes!! It is an Explorer "Ref.1016".
This is a vintage Explorer manufactured from around 1960 to around 1989.
During the long manufacturing period, various specification changes have been made.
It's a vintage Explorer.
Dr. Ito's favorite machine was manufactured around 1978.
The dial that matches the era is
the "Type 3 dial" characterized by a vertical crown mark.
This is a rare dial also known as
a "tall crown" !
Among the Ref.1016/matte dials,
It's a dial that's hard to find when you actually go looking for it!
By the way, was the doctor influenced by Mr. Abe?
Recently, I have a tendency to abbreviate things.
The tall crown is called "Torquela".
Also, the chronometer notation, "SUPERLATIVE CHRONOMETER" on the top line
The space between the words "OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED" at the bottom
This MK3 dial is a little bit misaligned,
