① "Cabaret" "Ref.107.021"
*Source: https://www.commit-watch.co.jp/buyer/watches/mens/a-lange_and_sohne/cabaret-228844/
Released in 1997, this watch is the only A. Lange & Söhne watch with a rectangular case, and its name comes from the Japanese word "Cabaret". When you hear the word "cabaret", you probably think of a nightclub, a place where you can listen to music while drinking, but in Germany, it has a strong artistic connotation and seems to mean a place to watch artistic shows. The dial has an outsize date at the 12 o'clock position, and it is also famous for being developed as a watch for opera houses where operas are watched. I think A. Lange & Söhne itself is classified as a watch for connoisseurs, but the Cabaret in particular has a strong impression of being chosen by advanced fashionistas, and the rectangular case peeking out from the wrist is sure to catch your eye.
② "Little Lange 1 Moon Phase" "Ref. 182.886"
*Source: https://www.commit-watch.co.jp/buyer/watches/mens/a-lange_and_sohne/little-lange-1-moon-phase-233061/
The Little Lange 1 Moon Phase features an eye-catching design with a copper-blue goldstone (purple gold) dial. Goldstone (purple gold) is an artificial goldstone made by mixing powdered cuprous oxide into molten glass, and its shape, reminiscent of the starry sky at night, is truly beautiful. The so-called "Little Lange" has a slightly smaller 36.8mm case size while keeping the design of the Lange 1, and is recommended for its size that is perfect for the arms of slender Japanese people. This model is also available in the "Ref. 182.086" with a smooth bezel, so why not choose the one that suits your taste?
③ "A. Lange 1" "Ref. 191.021"
*Source: https://www.alange-soehne.com/jp-ja/timepieces/lange-1/lange-1/lange-1-in-18-carat-yellow-gold-191-021
When you think of A. Lange & Söhne, the first iconic model that comes to mind is the Lange 1. This is the current model, released in 2015, with a slightly smaller bezel and lugs and a new hand-wound movement, Cal. L121.1. The outsize date, which is also a feature, has been brushed up so that the date display changes instantly, like the Rolex Datejust. Not only is the asymmetrical dial layout formed in the golden ratio visually beautiful, but the combination of the 18KYG (yellow gold) case and ivory silver dial gives a bold yet elegant impression of an adult. Our store handles a lot of the 18KPG (pink gold) model "Ref. 191.032", but we have never handled the yellow gold model, and the distribution volume itself seems to be small. There is also a price revision coming up, and there are signs of a rise in the secondary distribution market, so if you are looking for one, we recommend that you secure it early.
④ "A. Lange 1 Daymatic" "Ref. 320.025"
*Source: https://www.commit-watch.co.jp/buyer/watches/mens/a-lange_and_sohne/lange-1-daymatic-240794/
Introduced in 2010 as the first model in the collection with an automatic movement, this model is asymmetrical, mirroring the Lange 1, and the power reserve indicator is a retrograde day display. With solid hands and a rhodium-colored dial, you can enjoy the special feel of a platinum model everywhere. Also, if you wear the watch on your left hand, the main dial is on the right side, making it easy to check the time even if the watch is hidden by your sleeve. If you like the design of the Lange 1 and want a watch with the convenience of an automatic movement, this is the perfect model for you.
⑤ "Odysseus" "Ref.363.068"
*Source: https://www.commit-watch.co.jp/buyer/watches/mens/a-lange_and_sohne/odysseus-232999/
The Odysseus is A. Lange & Söhne's first luxury sports model. Featuring a calm gray dial, this watch is perfect for business situations, but you can also purchase a leather strap separately and enjoy it with a rubber strap in the summer and a leather strap in the winter. The movement, Cal. L155.1, developed for the Odysseus, has a big date display and a day of the week display, and can be viewed through the see-through back. The number of units in circulation is extremely low, the price is stable, and it is a recommended model that you can expect not only to be stylish and functional, but also to be a valuable investment.
⑥ "Richard Lange" "Ref. 232.026F"
*Source: https://www.commit-watch.co.jp/buyer/watches/mens/a-lange_and_sohne/richard-2/
This model, which inherits the tradition of scientific observation "deck watches" produced by [A. Lange & Söhne], is named after "Richard Lange", the eldest son of "Adolf Lange". "Deck watches" are high-precision instruments for scientific observation, and were indispensable for many explorers and scientists for accurate observation from the 18th to 19th centuries. "Richard Lange" made a significant contribution to the development of "deck watches", and in 1935, one was delivered to the Zeppelin airship factory in "Friedrichshafen" and used to determine the route and calculate fuel. While achieving high precision, research was also conducted on the pursuit of visibility, and the neat Roman numeral indexes are also a characteristic of "Richard Lange". The contrast between the blue steel hands, which are designed for visibility, and the simple silver-colored dial makes this a very beautiful piece.
⑦ "1815" "Ref.235.032"
*Source: https://www.alange-soehne.com/jp-ja/timepieces/1815/1815/1815-in-18-carat-pink-gold-235-032
The name of the collection, "1815," comes from the birth year of the company's founder, Adolf Lange. Let's take a look back at the history of A. Lange & Söhne to see how the number "1815" shows respect for the company's founder, Adolf Lange.
[ Anecdote showing respect ]
When you think of the "holy land of watches," Switzerland is the first place that comes to mind, but we must not forget Glashütte in Germany. In 1845, A. Lange Dresden was founded in Glashütte, Germany. At the time, Glashütte developed as a silver mine, but in the first half of the 19th century, the silver mines began to dry up and the mines were on the verge of being closed down. Adolf Lange established a watch workshop in this town with no future, providing jobs to the impoverished townspeople, and ultimately developed Glashütte into a town that can be counted as one of the "holy land of watches." During the World War, the factory was lost in air raids and nationalized, and its history was temporarily interrupted, but in 1990, the Berlin Wall fell and East and West Germany were unified, and A. Lange & Söhne was inherited by Adolf Lange's great-grandson Walter Lange, who rebuilt A. Lange & Söhne. "Sohne" means "sons" in German, and the passion that has been passed down from sons to grandsons and great-grandsons is reflected in the watchmaking of A. Lange & Söhne.
I've made a long introduction, but the most distinctive feature of this "1815" is the combination of the railway dial and Arabic indexes. The classic, timeless, and complete design is simply beautiful.
8. Saxonia Moonphase "Ref.384.032"
*Source: https://www.commit-watch.co.jp/buyer/watches/mens/a-lange_and_sohne/saxonia-206865/
The Saxonia is named after the state of Saxony, the hometown of the founder Adolf Lange and known in Germany as a pioneer of technological development. This model features A. Lange & Söhne's unique outsize date display at the 12 o'clock position and a moon phase display at the 6 o'clock position, and the combination of an 18KPG (pink gold) case and a silver dial gives it an elegant impression. The moon phase at the 6 o'clock position is so highly accurate that it only needs to be corrected once every 122.6 years. The see-through back allows you to enjoy the beautiful movement with hand-engraved details, and the adjustment pushers make it easy to adjust the outsize date and moon phase.
9. Langematik Perpetual Calendar "Ref. 310.025"
*Source: https://www.commit-watch.co.jp/buyer/watches/mens/a-lange_and_sohne/lange-matic-2/
[A. Lange & Söhne] Released in 2001 after the revival, this model was the first to feature an outsize date and perpetual calendar. The triple calendar with an outsize date, pointer day-date display, and moon phase is perfectly proportioned on the dial, and the movement stops when the crown is pulled out, and the second hand automatically returns to the zero position, making it a "zero reset mechanism." From the case back, you can admire the movement "Cal. L922.1" with artistic engravings by skilled craftsmen, and with its platinum case, 38.5mm size, and applied Roman indexes, it boasts such beauty that you will forget time. There are early and late models of this model, and the one we are introducing this time is the late model. Unlike the early model, it has a more stylish look because it does not have push buttons.10. Datograph "Ref. 403.035"
*Source: https://www.commit-watch.co.jp/buyer/watches/mens/a-lange_and_sohne/datograph-9/
This chronograph, which represents A. Lange & Söhne and was released in 1999, is a watch that any mechanical watch lover would want to own at least once. In 2012, a power reserve display was added and it was renewed as the Datograph Up/Down, but this time I recommend the previous model, the Datograph. The reason is that while the up/down display is more convenient in terms of function, I think this model wins in terms of design. The movement is the Cal.L951.1, which is said to be the most beautiful of mechanical watches. I think those who have seen it will agree, but the beauty of the watch peeking through the see-through back will make you sigh in surprise. The platinum case (39mm) and black dial are a combination that can be said to be the royal road of mechanical watches, and it is a supreme watch that makes you want to own it someday.
summary
What did you think.
A. Lange & Söhne continues to fascinate people with its tradition, beauty, and functionality. This time, I introduced the 10 models that I selected, and I think it is no wonder that it is counted as one of the world's top five watch brands. Although the historical and cultural backgrounds are of course different, Germany and Japan have something in common in terms of temperament and way of thinking, so I think many people are attracted to the design and careful workmanship. As the luxury watch market is currently expanding, there is a high possibility that as its reputation and reputation increase, the price in the secondary market will also rise.
Once again, I hope this article helps you find your favorite one.
see you!
