[Grand Seiko] To commemorate its 60th anniversary, the "Mechanical Hi-Beat 36000 60th Anniversary Model" "Ref. SBGH281" was sold in a limited edition of 1,500 pieces in 2020.

This model is equipped with the mechanical high-beat "Cal.9S85", which achieves high accuracy with a balance wheel that vibrates 36,000 times per hour (10 times per second) and an average daily rate of +5 to -3 seconds. The 60th anniversary model is a collection that uses the special color "Grand Seiko Blue" dial that symbolizes the brand. The beautiful color scheme and texture are also noteworthy, with a beautiful contrast of the second hand and the red letter at 6 o'clock, which are used as accent colors, the gold brand logo, and the sunburst finish dial that changes its appearance depending on the amount of light and the angle. This is a model that we would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a blue dial.

The "Elegance Collection" Ref. SBGM221 has a classic impression while also incorporating modern elements throughout, with an eye-catching ivory dial.

GMT models usually have the second time zone scale on the outer periphery of the dial, but this model has a unique design with a shorter blue steel GMT hand and scales on the inside of the index. In addition, it is equipped with the "Cal.9S66", which has significantly improved stability by adopting the latest hairspring and escapement made by MEMS (mechanical engineering systems), and its performance is also impeccable. The hour hand can be operated independently and is easy to operate, making it a highly practical and recommended watch for any use.

3. "Elegance Collection "Morning Shadow"" "Ref.SBGW267"

The European limited edition model, Ref. SBGW267, is named "Asakage" (Morning Shadow).

The mosaic-like dial is an unusual design that was created with the image of a paper screen absorbing the morning sun and quietly letting the light leak out. The case, which was inspired by Japanese architectural styles, has a curved lug design that fits the wrist, making it extremely comfortable to wear. The movement is equipped with the "Cal.9S64", the successor to the "Cal.9S54", and the power reserve has been improved from about 50 hours to about 72 hours, achieving stable accuracy. As it is a European-only model, it is rarely available in Japan, but with its classical dauphine hands, thick calf strap, and the expression of the dial, it is a recommended dress watch.

④ "Heritage Collection "Thaw"" "Ref.SLGH013"

The Ref. SLGH013 is the first regular Grand Seiko model to use Everbrilliant Steel, which boasts the world's highest level of corrosion resistance, for the case and bracelet.

Ever Brilliant Steel is a material exclusive to Grand Seiko that boasts approximately 1.7 times the corrosion resistance of SS (stainless steel) used in general luxury watches and has a slightly whitish color. It is also equipped with the automatic movement "Cal. 9SA5" developed in 2020, which has a high beat of 36,000 vibrations and a long power reserve of approximately 80 hours thanks to two barrels. The dial is decorated with a stamped pattern based on the spring thaw of snow on Mt. Iwate, and the pale blue that looks like silver complements the shine of Ever Brilliant Steel. It is a watch with excellent practicality and an elegant dial that changes its appearance depending on the angle of the light.

⑤ "Evolution 9 Collection "Lake Suwa"" "Ref.SLGA021"

"Ref. SLGA021" from the Evolution 9 Collection, released in 2023.

This watch has an impressive dial pattern that resembles the surface of Lake Suwa, rippling in the wind blowing across the lake in the silence before dawn. The dark blue dial, which also looks like a hammered finish, changes depending on the angle of the light, creating a beautiful expression. The movement is equipped with the Spring Drive movement "Cal.9RA2", assembled by skilled craftsmen, and lasts for up to approximately 120 hours (about 5 days). The flowing movement of the second hand, which is unique to Spring Drive, is unique to this brand. The "Water Surface" "Ref.SLGA007", which was announced in 2021 with a worldwide limited edition of 2021, has a slightly bright blue dial with gold color for the brand logo and second hand when the morning sun hits the water surface, but this one has a calm impression with a silver color, so it is a model that is easy to use both on and off.

⑥ "Heritage Collection "Getsu Tenshin"" "Ref.SBGY009"

The "Ref.SBGY009" was released in 2022 in a limited edition of 1,500 pieces (500 in Japan), and depicts the full moon rising high in the autumn, beautifully illuminating the sky.

It is also known for being written in a haiku poem by Yosa Buson as "The moon passes through a poor town," and the delicate radial stamping pattern is created to evoke the image of a clear night sky. The deep navy dial and gold accents on the brand logo and second hand create a beautiful model with a moonlit scene. The movement is Spring Drive "Cal.9R31," and the dual spring barrel mechanism uses two power springs in one barrel, achieving a power reserve of approximately 72 hours. The chic navy color makes it suitable for business situations.

⑦ "Elegance Collection "Karesansui"" "Ref.SBGY027"

The "Ref.SBGY027" was released in 2023 as a limited edition of 100 pieces in Europe, and was created with the image of a Japanese garden called "karesansui" .

The dial is gray, reminiscent of a dry landscape garden, which uses stones and sand to express the scenery of flowing water, and is expressed with a slightly curved radial pattern. The movement is equipped with the Spring Drive "Cal.9R31", and by adopting a dual spring barrel mechanism with two power springs in one barrel, it achieves a power reserve of about 72 hours. "Dry landscape garden" is also popular overseas, called "Zen garden". It is difficult to obtain in Japan because it is limited to 100 pieces in Europe, but it is recommended for those who like unique designs that are not covered by others.

8. Elegance Collection "Flower Raft" "Ref.SBGY030"

The "Elegance Collection "Hanaikada"" (Ref. SBGY030) is one of the collection lines whose dials embody the fleeting beauty brought about by the changing of the seasons and the 24 solar terms that are unique to Japan.

When we think of "flower rafts," we think of the "Ref. SBGA443," which was initially released as the "Japan Seasons Special Edition" only in the United States, but this is a special model announced at the annual invitation-only "Grand Seiko Special Selection 2023." It features a black-brown dial that evokes the image of cherry blossom petals gently floating on the water at night after the sun has set. The case is made of pink gold, and the contrast with the dial expresses the fleeting scene illuminated by the night lights, making this a typical Grand Seiko watch. As this is a limited edition of 20 pieces, there are very few in circulation, but the texture and color of the dial make this a highly recommended model.

9. Evolution 9 "Birch" Ref. SLGH005

*Source: https://www.commit-watch.co.jp/buyer/watches/mens/grand-seiko/heritage-395489/

The "Evolution 9 Shirakaba" Ref. SLGH005 is a representative model of the brand that won the men's watch category at the Geneva Watch Grand Prix (GPHG), known as the Academy Awards of the watch world.

This model has been popular since its release in 2021 and has become synonymous with the brand, and is affectionately known as "Shirakaba". One of Japan's leading birch forests grows in clusters near Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi. The official website also boasts that the dial expresses the majestic birch forest full of vitality, and its greatest feature is the dial, which expresses the strength of birch trees that are firmly rooted in nature. The contrast of the blue steel hands, which are hand-finished by skilled craftsmen and stand out against the silver dial, is also a very beautiful model. The movement is the automatic movement "Cal.9SA5" developed in 2020, which has a high beat of 36,000 vibrations and a long power reserve of approximately 80 hours thanks to two barrels. The "Ref.SLGA009" equipped with Spring Drive is also available, so why not choose one that suits your taste?

10. "Elegance Collection Spring Drive 20th Anniversary Model" "Ref. SBGZ001"

*Source: https://www.grand-seiko.com/jp-ja/news/20190321-6

The last model we would like to introduce is the Spring Drive 20th anniversary model, Ref. SBGZ001, released in 2019.

This watch, released in a limited edition of 30 pieces worldwide, was created with the image of snow accumulating on the mountains of Shinshu and engraved with wind patterns, and the "snow white" pattern, which was originally used for the dial design, is boldly applied to the entire platinum case. I'm sure I'm not the only one who thought that the design reminded me of the special model "VFA (Very Fine Adjusted)" "Ref. 6185-8010" that pursued the highest precision, released in 1969. The case material was made of an alloy of silver and the rare metal palladium, so it was commonly known as "Ginpala," and I imagine that it influenced the design of the "Ref. SBGZ001." Although it is a model with a low limited number and distribution volume and a high price, it is one that I would like to recommend.
