London in the 1990s. Simon Pegg (pictured right), who started his career as a stand-up comedian, made his big break in the zombie comedy " Shaun of the Dead " (2004) directed by Edgar Wright, who would later become his ally. Together with his co-star and best friend Nick Frost (pictured left), he went on to become a globally popular actor.

Simon Pegg was a standout actor when playing the role of a nerd or NEET who gets caught up in battles with killers, zombies, aliens, etc. I never would have imagined that he would become a star actor who could rival Tom Cruise in the Mission: Impossible series.

This time, we will be focusing on the watch worn by Simon Pegg in the movie " The Idiot Planet ."

He is excited to be able to get close to the celebrities he admires, but the industry is full of people who suck up to celebrities and stars. Sydney, who wants to write articles that are unique to him, gets into trouble and is about to be fired, but is saved by his colleague Alison ( Kirsten Dunst ).

One day, the editor-in-chief of a celebrity magazine steps down. Sydney is offered the position by chance, and he sets aside his personal preferences to become a huge success. "Celebrity Hacks " (2008) is a romantic comedy based on the real-life novel of Toby Young , a journalist at Conde Nast, publisher of fashion magazines such as "GQ" and "Vogue." Simon Pegg plays Sidney, a British writer who starts out stirring up the New York celebrity scene but eventually becomes immersed in it, wearing an Omega Speedmaster Professional (Ref. 3570.50) .

In the film, there is a scene where Sydney, who has become a famous editor-in-chief, receives many "gifts," one of which is this watch. Sydney throws away the cheap watch he was originally wearing and replaces it with this watch. This scene seems to represent his state of mind, having chosen to give up the "realities" of being a writer and pursue the "profits" of being an editor-in-chief.

An incident occurs in which a terrorist group called "Cobalt" steals the launch codes for a Russian nuclear missile. IMF spy Ethan Hunt ( Tom Cruise ) infiltrates the Kremlin to find out the truth, but at the same time, a bombing occurs and he is considered a suspect in the terrorist attack. In order to avoid suspicion of a terrorist organization, the IMF issues the "Ghost Protocol," which treats Ethan as "non-existent" and has no knowledge or involvement in his actions.

Now that he has lost the backing of the IMF, Ethan tracks down "Cobalt" in order to prevent nuclear war with a team of just four people: female spy Jane ( Paula Patton ), hacking expert Benji ( Simon Pegg ), and data analyst Brant ( Jeremy Renner ).

The popular Mission: Impossible series depicts the exploits of Ethan Hunt, a skilled spy played by Tom Cruise. Simon Pegg plays the popular character Benji Dunn , who first appeared in a small role in the third film, Mission: Impossible III (2006), and was promoted to a supporting role in the fourth film, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (2011).

Being a science-oriented character who excels at hacking, it seems likely that the watch he wears prioritizes "accuracy," "durability," and "multi-function" over status or asset value. The watch he wears is a Casio G-SHOCK (Ref. GX-56-1B) , part of the "GX Series," which aims to "withstand gravity from any (X = extra) direction."

According to the official G-SHOCK website, this model was released in July 2010. The fact that he wears this in the 2011 movie means that he has chosen to wear the "latest G-SHOCK model." Is he a fan of new things, or is he particular about the latest specs? We get a glimpse of an unexpected side of Benji.

CIA Director Hanley ( Alec Baldwin ), who sees the existence of the IMF as too reckless and unconventional, plans to dismantle the IMF and incorporate it into the CIA. The IMF is neutralized as planned, but at the same time, a mysterious spy organization called "The Syndicate" rises to power. Hanley suspects Ethan Hunt ( Tom Cruise ) to be the true identity of "The Syndicate" and puts him on the international wanted list, but Ethan also investigates "The Syndicate" on his own while in hiding. He discovers that the true identity is "Rogue Nation," a multinational organization formed by former elite spies from around the world who were believed to be dead.

The spies of the "Rogue Nation" have been causing a series of terrorist attacks and assassinations, plunging the world into chaos. Ethan secretly cooperates with Benji ( Simon Pegg ), who has reluctantly become a CIA agent, to confront the "Rogue Nation."

Following on from the previous film, Simon Pegg's Benji Dunn continues to play a more active role in the fifth film in the series, Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation (2015). The watch he wears in this film has evolved from the G-SHOCK he wore in the previous film to a Tissot Touch Function (Ref. T091.420.46.051.00) . The sapphire crystal windshield is equipped with touch sensors, and it is a multi-function smartwatch-like watch that can display not only a perpetual calendar and alarm, but also an altimeter, compass, and weather forecast.

As you can see in the image, there are scenes where he appears close up on the screen, and for watch fans, it's a delight to see that there are more scenes featuring not only Benji himself, but also the watch itself.

summary

What did you think.

Edgar Wright (pictured right) has directed Shaun of the Dead (2004), Hot Fuzz (2007), and World's End : Drunkards save the world! When Simon Pegg played an unemployed idiot and a cynical police officer in the so-called "Three Flavour Cornet Trilogy," including "The Three Flavours Cornet Trilogy" (2013), who would have imagined that he would become such a big star actor ten years later? (Sorry.)

However, even though he has become such a big star actor, Simon Pegg still continues to play comical characters who are a bit unreliable, unable to read the mood, and clumsy, and who have a bit of a nerdy or stupid feel to them, which is what makes fans happy.

The watches he wears in the movie are all models that would appeal to nerds and sci-fi enthusiasts who have retained their childish side, such as Speedmasters and G-Shocks, which seems to reflect the character's unwavering ``idiot core''.

I hope that Simon Pegg will continue to deliver charming performances as the " dumb, nice middle-aged man " and the " dumb grandpa " in the future, and I look forward to seeing what kind of geeky watches he will wear, and I will continue to follow his activities as a fan.

see you!
