"Actor's Watch" focuses on watches worn by actors in movies, television, etc.
For the 147th installment, we will be introducing " Jackie Chan's watch ."

Jackie Chan is the world's number one action star, recognized by everyone, with Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt naming him as their "favorite star." Since his debut, he has pursued real action without relying on stuntmen or CG, and there is surely no movie fan who doesn't know his "spirit of action," even though he has sometimes been on the verge of death due to filming accidents.

Jackie Chan is known to be a fan of Richard Mille watches in his private life. However, as I researched further, I discovered that he wears a variety of other watches in his movies. I felt that I had to introduce these to you.

Jackie ( Jackie Chan ), a treasure hunter nicknamed the " Asian Hawk ," obtains a sacred sword that was once ruled by an African tribe. It is one of the "divine weapons" that are said to give great power when all five are collected. A cult that is after the weapon in order to conquer the world kidnaps Laura ( Rosamund Kwan ), a woman Jackie once loved and who is now the girlfriend of his best friend Alan ( Alan Tam ). They take her hostage and order Jackie to collect the weapons scattered around the world.

Jackie and Alan borrow the weapons from Count Bannon, a wealthy man who owns three of the weapons, on the condition that they find the remaining two. In order to rescue Laura, they travel around the world in search of the remaining weapons.

The "Asian Falcon" series, in which Jackie Chan plays a treasure hunter who travels the world, is the first of the series, " Thunder Arm " (1986). This film is also known for the fact that Jackie fell from a height of 15 meters during filming, suffering a serious injury with a fractured skull, and filming was halted for six months.

The watch Jackie wears in this life-risking film is the Luminox Compass (Ref. LU502 ) . This outdoor watch features a two-story structure of a timepiece and a compass. It's a choice that captures the spirit of an adventurer, like a treasure hunter who travels around the world to find treasure.

The twelve bronze statues representing the twelve Chinese zodiac animals are called the "Twelve Zodiacs." The antique dealer MP Company commissions the legendary treasure hunter JC ( Jackie Chan ), also known as the " Asian Hawk ," to collect these treasures, which were lost overseas during the Qing Dynasty and are now scattered around the world.

JC forms a special team with his right-hand man Simon ( Kwon Sang-woo ), hacker David ( Liao Fan ), and martial artist Bonnie ( Jiang Lanxin ). In search of the "Twelve Zodiac Signs," they travel around the world, including Europe, the South Pacific, and mainland China, and obtain the real statues by swapping them with replicas.

The third film in the Asian Falcon series, following Thunder Arm (1986) and Project Eagle (1991) , was the monumental Rising Dragon ( 2012), in which Jackie Chan declared his retirement from action films, saying, "This will be the last film where I put my body on the line for real action." Jackie was 32 when Thunder Arm was released, but by the time this film was released, he was 58, just short of turning 60. It's sad to see him retire from action films, but it's inevitable.

The watch worn by "Asian Falcon" in this film is an Urwerk (Ref. UR-202 AlTiN) . It is a watch with a unique mechanism that reads the time by the numbers written on the rotating hand and the scale where the hand points. Urwerk lent this watch free of charge for the filming in response to an enthusiastic offer from Jackie, who is known as a watch enthusiast.

The legendary, silly show " Jackass " (2000) achieved the highest audience ratings in the history of American cable TV with its extreme, physical scenes, such as "putting a stun gun on my crotch." The suspense action movie " Skiptrace " (2016) is a dream collaboration between Johnny Knoxville, the central character of the show, and Jackie Chan .

The watch that appears in this film is a Panerai Luminor Power Reserve (Ref. PAM00423 ) , a watch left behind by Jackie's former partner. The Luminor was carefully looked after as a memento of his late partner, but in the film it is used as pawn to buy a rundown used car in Mongolia. Luxury watches are useful in such " emergencies ," so we recommend having one.

summary

What did you think.

All three of the watches we introduced this time are sturdy watches worthy of a rare action hero. The selection of watches that look like they can withstand minor shocks is typical of Jackie, who is known to be a watch lover.

Jackie Chan, with his intense action , sweet looks and endearing comedic acting , popularized kung fu movies as a genre that could be enjoyed by both men and women. He was especially popular in Japan in the 1980s, and achieved the feat of holding the number one spot every month for six long years in the movie magazine Roadshow's ranking of the most popular male actors.

Jackie Chan, the "eternal kung fu star," has many fans even among young women, including Suzu Hirose, Shoko Nakagawa, and Kii Kitano. Even though his body is old, Jackie's rampaging action in his films will remain youthful and never fade.

On my next day off, I might watch " Spartan X " (1984) with Jackie Chan , Sammo Hung , and Yuen Biao all in one place...

see you!
