Good evening everyone.

The mornings and evenings are gradually getting colder, so I hope you are all staying safe. As for the watch market, it is still calm and it is still a good time to buy, so please check out our website to find the model you are looking for.

Today, I would like to introduce to you the first arrival of a popular model equipped with "that movement" that I have been promoting for many years.

"Ref.5070J-001"
『Chronograph』18KYG

In the history of Patek Philippe, the most famous chronograph is the 35mm hand-wound Ref. 1463, which was produced from the 1940s to the mid-1960s, but after that, models with a standalone chronograph function disappeared.

More than 30 years later, in 1998, the "Ref. 5070J-001" was born, featuring a 42mm 18KYG (yellow gold) case, a black dial, and a hand-wound movement.

This watch is based on the design of the "Chronograph Split-Second" aviator watch "Ref. 2512" manufactured and sold in the 1950s, and became a hot topic as it marked the revival of a standalone "chronograph" model.

The case design, subdials, tachymeter scale, applied Arabic indexes, hour, minute and chronograph hands, etc. are all colored in gold, which pays homage to the classic Ref. 2512.

Although it was short-lived, with a production period of just four years until around 2002, its seductive design means that it is still a highly sought-after model even now, more than 20 years later.

With the "Ref. 5070J-001" introduced this time, we are now finally able to handle the long-awaited model in all materials, so we would like to take this opportunity to briefly look back on the other cases.

The "Ref. 5070J-001" was replaced by the "Ref. 5070G-001," which was manufactured from around 2002 to around 2006 and features a cool combination of 18KWG (white gold) case and silver dial.

The dial is slightly grayish white, and the subdials, tachymeter scale, applied Arabic indexes, hour, minute and chronograph hands, and subdials are all black. The atmosphere has changed dramatically, giving it a cool and elegant impression.

Next is the "Ref. 5070R-001", which was manufactured from around 2004 to 2008.

Like the Ref. 5070G-001, it has a silver dial, but the hour, minute and chronograph hands other than the chronograph hand, the sub-dial hands, and the applied Arabic numerals are all made of rose gold, the same color as the case, giving it a refined and elegant look.

And the final model released in 2008, the 10th anniversary of the birth of the "Ref. 5070" series, was the "Ref. 5070P-001," which combines a PT (platinum) case with a vivid blue dial, giving it a sophisticated and dignified impression.

This model was discontinued the following year, so it seems that when it was first released, there were very few of them on the market, just like there are now. By the way, this model always attracts a lot of attention, and whenever we stock it in our store, it sells out immediately.

Although the "Ref. 5070" series was not a limited edition, the number of units produced per year was apparently set, making it a special model even among Patek Philippe brands.

Now that we have covered the genealogy of the "Ref. 5070" series, let's return to the main topic.

This can be said for all "Ref. 5070" series watches in general, but the case design, with its stepped bezel, thick lugs, etc., can be summed up in one word: it is beautiful from any angle.

The case diameter is 42mm, which was somewhat large for the time, and the thickness is around 11.5mm, but strangely enough, when you actually wear it you don't feel its size; in fact, I think it is a size that matches modern standards.

The dial design is perfect in every respect, with two counters (sub-dials) placed towards the center, leaf-shaped hands, applied Arabic indexes, and a double tachymeter scale and chronograph scale on the outer edge.

By the way, the two subdials are a 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock and a small second at 9 o'clock. The balance between the somewhat modest crown and square pushers is also good for this large case.

The sapphire skeleton back allows you to see the Lemania-based movement "Cal.27-70 CHR.", which I have been recommending for many years. It has a vibration frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour and a power reserve of 60 hours. Each part is finished with great care, making it truly artistic and moving no matter how many times you look at it.

The warranty date is October 2004. The four digits in the alphabet on the bottom left of the warranty indicate that the watch was manufactured in May 2001. There is no "Ref. 5070" booklet, but the box and other accessories appropriate for the era are included. This is the first model of the "Ref. 5070", and it is a very exciting model considering its future, and it is also suitable for owning as part of a collection.
*The inside of the inner box shows signs of deterioration due to aging.

The selling price is 9,768,000 yen (tax included)

The "Ref.5070" series is a popular model that many people are searching for along with the "Ref.3970" and "Ref.5970". Among them, the "Ref.5070J-001" in particular is a model that is extremely rare on the market, and this is the first time it has arrived in our store, so if you are interested, we recommend that you make a quick decision and purchase it!!

summary

What did you think?

Like the "Ref. 5070" we introduced this time and the "Ref. 3970" we currently have in stock, models equipped with Lemania-based movements are expected to become even less common on the market in the future. In my personal opinion, this is a model that deserves more recognition, and I think it's a very exciting model in the medium to long term. We've received many inquiries about it, so if you're interested, be sure to get it before you regret it! (laughs)

We will continue to offer attractive models at reasonable prices, so please look forward to it!

See you next time!
