Well, this time, we were able to get hold of the 4th generation "Perpetual Calendar Chronograph" with a particularly popular PT (Platinum) case and black dial "Ref. 5970P-001", and it was still in its "single sealed" condition, unopened from the plastic packaging it was shipped in, so we were excited to introduce it in this article! But unfortunately, it was sold out before we could introduce it...
So, although we have introduced it once before, the "Ref.3970", the predecessor of the "Ref.5970" that was immediately decided to be sold after the maintenance was completed, has miraculously returned, so we would like to introduce it again! Please read to the end!

The "Perpetual Calendar Chronograph" "Ref. 3970", which has different specifications depending on the sales period and case material, has a beautiful and finished design that has attracted many Patek Philippe fans. Let's start by briefly reviewing the "Ref. 3970".
Only 100 of the first generation models were produced, making them extremely rare and almost never seen on the market.
The case back is a closed snap back, and its biggest feature is that the subdials are different colors, creating a classic look with a strong contrast.
This second generation watch was produced from 1986 to 1991 and has subdials the same color as the dial.
Most of the timepieces have a closed screw-down back, but there are also models with skeletonized backs that were produced very late in the production period. The classic leaf hands are only found on the first and second generations of the Ref. 3970, and as the production period was short at just five years, they are rarely available on the market, and many people are searching for them.
Then came the third generation, the Ref. 3970E, which we will introduce here.
The "E" in "Ref.3970E" stands for "etanche" in French, which means "waterproof." It is a screw-down type, and is sold with a closed back and a sapphire crystal see-through back. There are various theories, but one theory is that it was introduced in response to a series of individual orders from customers for the "Ref.3970" model skeleton back.
The dial has changed from baton-shaped indexes to triangle-shaped indexes, and from leaf-shaped hands to baton-shaped hands. It is said that this generation was produced in the greatest number of pieces, but the impression is that the "Ref. 3970" itself is extremely rare on the market. The 18KYG (yellow gold) case is the most widely distributed, and the combination of 18KWG (white gold) case and silver dial, which has been restocked this time, is surprisingly few in number. The color is easy to use, and it can be worn in any situation. The dial is silver, but it looks somewhat ivory, which adds to the atmosphere.
The famous "Cal. CH 27-70 Q" movement can be admired through the sapphire crystal back, and boasts stunning beauty.
Accessories include a warranty, pass case, booklets, serial tag, closed back cover, adjustment pin, and a box with some damage on the inside but in which the adjustment pin can be set, making it a great collector's item.
In addition, it was overhauled by the manufacturer in February 2023, and inspected, adjusted, and tested in October 2023. Since the Perpetual Calendar Chronograph is a complex mechanism, maintenance costs are high, so the fact that it has been overhauled by the manufacturer may encourage you to purchase it.
