Good evening everyone.

This time, on Sunday, November 26th Christies held in Hong Kong I would like to talk about the results of the watch auction for "】 ! Auction results are very useful and important information as they have a large impact on the market trends in the secondary market, so this time I would like to focus on the models that we handle frequently in our store and unravel them. Let's take a look!

*The price is the winning auction price plus a commission fee (27%).
*The Japanese yen rate will be based on the most recent exchange rate at the time of the auction.
*HKD (Hong Kong dollar) = 19.62 yen
*With some exceptions, all images refer to CHRISTIES.

Lot.2286
"Aquanaut "Jumbo"" 18KWG

Estimate: HKD 400,000 – 800,000
(JPY 7,848,000 – 15,696,000 )

Sold for HKD 693,000 (JPY 13,596,660)

In 2017, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the birth of the Aquanaut, the Ref. 5168G-001 was released with an 18KWG (white gold) case and a 42.2mm "jumbo" size.

This watch has a black gradient blue dial with a tropical band in the same color, midnight blue, giving it a sporty yet elegant look. Although the warranty date is 2022, making it a relatively old model, the winning bid was "not bad!" to be honest. We currently have a watch in our shop with a warranty date of February 2019, and although the model year and buckle specifications are different from the one that was on sale, we think it is priced at a very reasonable price. Take this opportunity to check it out!

Estimate: HKD 450,000 – 900,000
(JPY 8,829,000 – 17,658,000
)

Sold for HKD 819,000 (JPY 16,068,780)

The Aquanaut "Ref. 5168G-010" was released in 2019 with a case diameter of 42.2mm, commonly known as the "jumbo" size, a khaki green dial, and a tropical band of the same color.

The matte dial has a military feel and matches both elegant and casual clothing, a finish not often seen in previous Patek Philippe watches. This particular watch also fetched a high bid, as the warranty date was 2022, making it a relatively old model. We have sold this watch several times in the past, and it is such a popular model that every watch has sold quickly, so we hope to see a price movement in the future.

Lot.2288
"Aquanaut Travel Time" SS
"Ref.5164A-001"

*Source: https://www.christies.com/lot/lot-6455603?ldp_breadcrumb=back&intObjectID=6455603&from=salessummary&lid=1

Estimate: HKD 350,000 – 700,000
(JPY 6,867,000 – 13,734,000
)

Sold for HKD 630,000 (JPY 12,360,600 )

The Aquanaut Travel Time "Ref. 5164A-001" with a stainless steel case was released at Baselworld in 2011.

Although the case size is impressive at 40.8mm, the thickness has been kept to 10.2mm, making it comfortable to wear. In addition, the travel time mechanism is easy to use, so it is especially recommended for those who often travel abroad for travel or work. This is a model that sells relatively quickly when it arrives at our store, and there is high demand from overseas customers, so we expect the price to rise.

Lot.2289
"Nautilus Petit Complication" SS
"Ref.5712/1A-001"

*Source: https://www.christies.com/lot/lot-6455604?ldp_breadcrumb=back&intObjectID=6455604&from=salessummary&lid=1

Estimate: HKD 500,000 – 1,000,000
(JPY 9,810,000 – 19,620,000
)

Sold for HKD 882,000 (JPY 17,304,840)

The long-selling Nautilus model "Ref. 5712/1A-001" was released in 2006 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of its birth as the successor to the "Ref. 3712/1A-001" equipped with a small complication.

The "Cal.240 PS IRM C LU" installed in this model was born as a derivative movement of the ultra-thin "Cal.240" with a micro rotor, which is representative of Patek Philippe. Although it is equipped with a "petit complication" mechanism, the case thickness is only 0.22 mm different from the simple three-hand model "Ref.5711/1A-001", and it boasts an excellent wearing comfort. All the models of "Nautilus" are very cool, but considering the total balance of the dial design, size, and wearing comfort, I like this model the most. By the way, regarding the results of the auction, taking into account the condition of the individual item and the warranty date of the old model, it was sold at a price that conforms to the current market price, so I think it will continue to be the same for a while.

Lot.2290
"Nautilus" SS
"Ref.5711/1A-010"

*Source: https://www.christies.com/lot/lot-6455605?ldp_breadcrumb=back&intObjectID=6455605&from=salessummary&lid=1

Estimate: HKD 400,000 – 800,000
(JPY 7,848,000 – 15,696,000
)

Sold for HKD 819,000 (JPY 16,068,780)

The Ref. 5711/1A-010 is a minor change model of the Ref. 5711/1A-001, which was released in 2006 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Nautilus.

Starting with the "Ref. 5711/1A-001," the dial's blue color has increased and it has a stronger shine, and the bracelet links have changed from "screw-type" on both sides to "pin-type" that is knocked out. In addition, the models manufactured after 2019 are equipped with the new movement "Cal. 26-330 SC," which has a hack function (second hand stop) and no longer has a time period during which the date cannot be changed, making it a model that has gradually evolved. Although production of this model ended in 2021, it is still a very popular model, and the auction results exceeded the estimate, as if to show the high demand for it.

Lot.2291
"Nautilus" SS
"Ref.5711/1A-011"

*Source: https://www.christies.com/lot/lot-6455606?ldp_breadcrumb=back&intObjectID=6455606&from=salessummary&lid=1

Estimate: HKD 300,000 – 600,000
(JPY 5,886,000 – 11,772,000
)

Sold for HKD 756,000 (JPY 14,832,720)

The "Ref. 5711/1A-011" was released in 2012 as a new model with a white dial.

This model was released as a minor change to the previously mentioned "Ref. 5711/1A-001". The refreshing white dial features dark blue-rimmed indexes and luminous hands, making it extremely easy to read. Although it was one of the most popular models in the Nautilus series, production was unfortunately discontinued in 2020. The model put up for auction this time was sold in 2019, near the end of its run, and the winning bid exceeded the estimated price.

Lot.2293
"Nautilus Annual Calendar Moon Phase" SS
"Ref.5726/1A-014"

*Source: https://www.christies.com/lot/lot-6455608?ldp_breadcrumb=back&intObjectID=6455608&from=salessummary&lid=1

Estimate: HKD 500,000 – 1,000,000
(JPY 9,810,000 – 19,620,000
)

Sold for HKD 882,000 (JPY 17,304,840)

Inspired by the first Nautilus, Ref. 3700, which was released in 1976, the Ref. 5726/1A-014 features a blue-black gradient dial, as well as an annual calendar and moon phase display.

We have handled several of these in our shop, and they are always popular models that sell relatively quickly. Because they are equipped with an excellent mechanism, the thickness is a little thick, but the feeling of wearing is not compromised at all, and the impact is increased, making it a very satisfying piece. Although it did not exceed the estimate, the successful bid price was also a reasonable price that was in line with the market price.

Lot.2296
"Nautilus Travel Time Chronograph" 18KRG
"Ref.5990/1R-001"

*Source: https://www.christies.com/lot/lot-6455611?ldp_breadcrumb=back&intObjectID=6455611&from=salessummary&lid=1

Estimate: HKD 1,100,000 – 2,200,000
(JPY 21,582,000 – 43,164,000
)

Sold for HKD 1,890,000 (JPY 37,081,800)

The long-awaited "Nautilus Chronograph Travel Time" series, released as a new model in 2021, is the "Ref. 5990/1R-001" with an 18KRG (rose gold) case and bracelet.

The blue sunburst dial with horizontal embossing has 18KRG (rose gold) parts placed all over it, such as the hour and minute hands and the edges of the indexes, and the coloring of the case and bracelet combine to create an elegant and glamorous finish. This model is packed with Patek Philippe's technical capabilities, equipped with three complication mechanisms: "flyback chronograph", "travel time", and "local date display". The winning bid amount was also satisfactory, as it was in line with the current market price.

Lot.2298
"Nautilus Baguette Cut Diamond Bezel" SS
"Ref.5711/1300A-001 "

*Source: https://www.christies.com/lot/lot-6455613?ldp_breadcrumb=back&intObjectID=6455613&from=salessummary&lid=1

Estimate: HKD 3,000,000 – 6,000,000
(JPY 58,860,000 – 117,720,000
)

Sold for HKD 3,780,000 (JPY 74,163,600)

The new 2021 model Nautilus "Ref. 5711/1300A-001" features an olive green dial and 32 baguette-cut diamonds on the bezel.

This special edition, which was once traded for over 100 million yen, is a watch made of stainless steel and set with diamonds, giving it the playful feel that is unique to Patek Philippe. Looking at the results this time, it seems to have become more reasonable, but it is still nearly seven times the official domestic sales price, which makes you wonder what kind of person bought it... We have not handled this product yet, so we look forward to hearing from anyone who has one. (laughs)

Lot.2311
"Calatrava Pilot Travel Time" 18KWG
"Ref.5524G-001"

*Source: https://www.christies.com/lot/lot-6455626?ldp_breadcrumb=back&intObjectID=6455626&from=salessummary&lid=1

Estimate: HKD 240,000 – 480,000
(JPY 4,708,800 – 9,417,600
)

Sold for HKD 378,000 (JPY 7,416,360)

The Calatrava Pilot Travel Time "Ref. 5524G-001" has an 18KWG (white gold) Calatrava case, a blue dial, and a calfskin strap, giving it a classic yet casual look.

It is very different from the previous "Travel Time" in that it has a lock function for the local time change button. This function actually plays a very important role, and without it, you would accidentally press the button and the local time would get out of sync, but adding this function has improved its practicality all at once! It's no wonder that this is a top-class brand, as they listen carefully to customer feedback and make improvements.

We have two of this model in stock at our store, but we are selling them for over 2 million yen less than the winning bid. Considering that it was priced high at auction, this is a watch with great potential. It's a watch I really like, so if you're having trouble deciding, please contact us first! We'll give you a firm push. (laughs)

summary

What did you think.

This time, we focused on familiar models (i.e. models that we have handled in our store) from the watch auction held by Christies in Hong Kong on Sunday, November 26th. Looking at the results, some rare items were sold at high prices or at prices that are likely to be popular in the future, but the rest were sold at roughly the same price as the current market, so prices may continue to trend this way for a while. We will continue to keep a close eye on the results of other auctions and hope to report on them in Patek Theory.

see you!
